Overview
Turing, a research accelerator for frontier AI labs, seeks a senior engineer to create and refine code datasets that train and benchmark large language models. You will work hands-on with Python, C/C++, Rust, Go, Java, and JavaScript (including ReactJS), focusing on systems-level code, performance, and infrastructure. The role involves evaluating AI-generated code for correctness and scalability, building automated verification agents, and collaborating with researchers to improve model capabilities across the software engineering cycle. This is a flexible contractor position requiring a minimum of 10 hours per week, with the option to scale up to 40.
What You'll Do8
- Curate code examples and develop solutions in Python, C/C++, Rust, Go, Java, and JavaScript (including ReactJS) for AI training datasets.
- Assess and enhance AI-generated code with a focus on systems-level correctness, performance, and reliability.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
- Build agents that automatically verify the quality of systems-level and infrastructure code and detect error patterns.
- Formulate hypotheses about stages of the software engineering cycle (prototyping, architecture design, API design, production implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, operational maintenance) and test model capabilities on them.
- Design verification mechanisms that can automatically validate solutions to software engineering tasks.
- Provide precise, structured rationales for code evaluations and corrections.
- Refine datasets to ensure they meet the quality standards required by frontier AI research.
Requirements6
- At least 3 years of software engineering experience.
- Strong expertise in systems programming, infrastructure, or backend development using languages such as Python, C/C++, Rust, and Go.
- Experience building and deploying scalable, production-grade software with modern languages and tools.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality assessment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured evaluation rationales.
- Must be based in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications2
- Experience at frontier AI companies such as OpenAI, NVIDIA, Databricks, Palantir, or Snowflake.
- Graduation from leading programs like Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, or University of Pennsylvania.
Who Should Apply
The role suits senior engineers with at least 3 years of experience in systems programming or backend development, particularly those fluent in Python, C/C++, Rust, Go, and JavaScript. Candidates who have worked at frontier AI labs or on performance-critical infrastructure will thrive here. If you enjoy dissecting code quality and building automated verification tools, this is for you.
