Reinsurance & Program Business Specialist | $800 One-Time Remote
Overview
Mercor is working with an AI lab to improve how frontier models reason about insurance risk transfer. This role centers on reinsurance and program business data. You will design realistic treaty and delegated-authority scenarios, then grade AI responses against market standards. The scope includes excess-of-loss layers, facultative placements, MGAs, fronting, captives, and Lloyd's arrangements. Professionals from reinsurers, cedents, brokers, MGUs, and program administrators will find the work familiar.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build realistic treaty and facultative reinsurance scenarios with attachment points, exhaustion, cessions, recoverables, and bordereaux.
- 2Draft work products such as structure comparisons, submission analyses, contract summaries, program reviews, and counterparty assessments.
- 3Write high-quality reference responses that reflect experienced reinsurance and program-business judgment.
- 4Score AI-generated answers against rubrics that test structural accuracy, contract logic, financial reasoning, stakeholder roles, and market realism.
- 5Identify errors in layers, limits, retentions, commissions, claims control, collateral, and counterparty exposure.
- 6Flag misunderstandings about how MGAs, fronting carriers, and cedents divide responsibilities.
- 7Send written feedback that helps the research team retrain the model.
- 8Attend onboarding and calibration sessions to align on grading standards.
Requirements6
- 1At least 2 years of professional experience in reinsurance, program business, delegated authority, fronting, captive insurance, or alternative risk transfer.
- 2Working knowledge of treaty reinsurance, facultative reinsurance, MGA or MGU programs, Lloyd's arrangements, captives, or fronted programs.
- 3Ability to identify the economic and operational roles of cedents, reinsurers, brokers, MGAs, fronting carriers, and insureds.
- 4Understanding of how contract structure drives risk transfer, earnings, collateral, claims handling, and reporting.
- 5Strong written reasoning, commercial judgment, and attention to detail.
- 6Ability to distinguish reinsurance decisions from direct underwriting and routine claim adjudication.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has spent at least two years in reinsurance or program business and can explain how risk transfer works across a cedent, reinsurer, broker, MGA, and fronting carrier. The role fits people who enjoy writing reference answers and evaluating model outputs more than executing live deals. A direct underwriter who never handles risk transfer or delegated authority will likely find the material unfamiliar. Applications often get rejected when they list only general insurance experience without naming a specific reinsurance domain. Another common miss is failing to show how a contract structure changes collateral, earnings, or claims handling.
Salary Insight
The pay is a flat $800 one-time fee for the project. Because the listing asks for 20+ hours per week, the effective hourly rate depends on how many hours you actually spend. If you finish in exactly 20 hours, that comes to $40 per hour, but more hours drops the rate. This payment model fits short, fixed-scope evaluation work rather than ongoing consulting engagements.

Application Tip
Name the specific reinsurance structures you have worked with, such as treaty, facultative, or MGA programs, and give one concrete example of where you evaluated contract language for risk-transfer accuracy or bordereaux compliance. Mention relevant designations like CPCU or ARe to raise your fit.
