Life & Annuity Specialist | $800 One-Time Remote
Overview
An AI lab is training frontier models to reason through life and annuity products, and Mercor is assembling a pool of experienced practitioners to produce that training data. You will draft realistic scenarios such as needs analysis, product selection, underwriting, replacements, and 1035 exchanges, then rewrite and score AI-generated answers against industry-standard rubrics. Carriers, broker-dealers, BGAs, IMOs, and independent practices all have relevant experience. The role is remote for US, Canada, or UK, pays a flat $800 fee, and requires at least 20 hours per week.
What You'll Do6
- 1Build realistic client scenarios covering needs analysis, product selection, illustrations, and medical or financial underwriting.
- 2Draft reference answers at experienced practitioner quality, such as coverage recommendations, illustration comparisons, and suitability rationales.
- 3Evaluate AI outputs for product accuracy, mathematical correctness, suitability, and disclosure adequacy using structured grading rubrics.
- 4Identify problematic outputs like unsupported illustration assumptions, unsuitable recommendations, and confusion between product types or tax treatments.
- 5Write concise written feedback that the research team uses to adjust model behavior.
- 6Attend onboarding office hours and calibration sessions to align on grading standards.
Requirements6
- 12+ years of professional experience in life insurance or annuity advisory, underwriting, new business, policy administration, product, or suitability review.
- 2Working knowledge of at least one product family: term, whole life, universal or indexed universal life, variable life, fixed, indexed, or variable annuities.
- 3Understanding of policy mechanics like cost of insurance, crediting, caps, participation rates, surrender charges, riders, and guarantees.
- 4Ability to explain tax treatment and suitability considerations and recognize when licensed or legal review is needed.
- 5Strong written communication and careful quantitative reasoning.
- 6Bonus qualifications include CLU, ChFC, FLMI, CFP, active or prior life and health license, or securities registration. These are preferred, not required.
Who Should Apply
This role is a fit for a current or former life and annuity practitioner who can read a policy form and spot an unsuitable recommendation. It is not a fit for someone looking for ongoing client work or a full-time role, since the engagement is a one-time, task-based project paying $800. Candidates who lack hands-on experience with policy mechanics or replacement rules typically score low on fit. So do those who cannot write clearly or who need daily direction, because the work is independent and judged against exacting rubrics.
Salary Insight
Pay is a flat $800 one-time fee for the project. This is a fixed project payment, not an hourly rate, so your effective hourly return depends on how many hours you spend on the assigned scenarios and grading tasks.
