Mechanical Engineer AI Trainer
Overview
A contract role for a seasoned mechanical engineer to contribute as an AI trainer on an engineering-focused project. You’ll build detailed 3D CAD models and analyze drawings using platforms like SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or CATIA, while helping validate AI system outputs with your technical expertise. The work centers on producing precise component models, documenting specs and tolerances, and sharing feedback to improve AI reasoning about mechanical tasks. Remote collaboration with cross-functional teams is expected, and prior AI experience isn’t required. Bold focus areas include 3D CAD modeling, FEA concepts, and technical documentation.
What You'll Do7
- 1Create accurate 3D CAD models of simple mechanical components using SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or CATIA.
- 2Interpret technical drawings to extract critical dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
- 3Document component requirements, specifications, and manufacturing tolerances in clear formats.
- 4Provide input on conceptual stress analysis and finite element analysis tasks to support model validation.
- 5Review and improve CAD outputs and technical docs for precision and clarity.
- 6Deliver expert written and verbal feedback to help train AI outputs within mechanical engineering contexts.
- 7Work asynchronously with cross-functional teams via remote tools to meet project goals.
Requirements5
- 15+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience focusing on 3D CAD modeling and FEA.
- 2Proficiency in SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or CATIA with multi-platform capability.
- 3Strong ability to interpret and generate comprehensive technical drawings and documentation.
- 4Solid understanding of stress analysis, FEA principles, and validation workflows.
- 5Excellent written and verbal communication with meticulous attention to documentation details.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has deep hands-on mechanical design experience, excels with multiple CAD platforms, and can translate complex drawings into precise specifications. This role is less suitable for those without substantial CAD/FEA background or who cannot work asynchronously with remote teams. Common fit issues include limited experience producing formal documentation or weak ability to critique and improve CAD outputs. Expect a higher fit for engineers who have previously modeled components, defined requirements, and contributed to end-to-end engineering processes.
Salary Insight
Pay range is $55 - $100/hr. Compensation details are provided by the employer and may be discussed later in the process.
