Overview

Remote contractor role joining micro1 to support a project that enhances AI capabilities in mechanical design. You’ll apply your CAD and GD&T expertise to parts and assemblies, assess AI-generated technical content, and help translate concepts into production-ready designs. Expect to review tolerance stacks, DFM considerations, and drawing releases, while communicating findings clearly to a distributed team. Your precision and technical detail will help train next generation AI systems in real world mechanical design tasks. CAD and GD&T expertise are central to the work.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Evaluate complex mechanical designs and CAD problems covering part and assembly work, GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, and manufacturing feasibility
  • 2Review AI generated technical responses for engineering accuracy and overall quality
  • 3Apply practical engineering judgment to real world production design scenarios and theoretical questions
  • 4Analyze and troubleshoot design issues using standard techniques like tolerance stack‑up analysis and GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • 5Contribute domain knowledge to guide model improvements and refine AI reasoning in CAD and mechanical design
  • 6Document feedback and provide clear written and verbal explanations to support AI learning
  • 7Collaborate remotely with a distributed team of experts and project participants

Requirements6

  • 1MS or BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or Industrial Design (CSWP/CSWE a plus)
  • 2At least 5 years in production design roles with direct ownership of designs through GD&T, tolerance stacks, DFM, and drawing release
  • 3Deep knowledge of parametric CAD modeling and GD&T per ASME Y14.5, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFMA principles
  • 4Proven ability to take a design from concept to detailed drawings, ECR/ECN, and production release
  • 5Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 and ASME B89 standards and manufacturing constraints across machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and casting
  • 6Professional English proficiency with strong written and verbal communication

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on mechanical engineer with a track record of delivering production designs and confidently applying GD&T and tolerance analysis. This role may not suit someone without direct experience in drawing release, ECR/ECN processes, or manufacturing considerations. Candidates lacking strong written or verbal communication in English may struggle to document feedback for AI training. Common fit risks include limited experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 or insufficient exposure to design for manufacturability across multiple processes.

Salary Insight

Pay is hourly and ranges from 60 to 130 per hour. Pay is discussed with the client later in the process and is not guaranteed until an agreement is reached.
