Overview
SuperAnnotate's data services arm, SME Careers, needs Japanese language experts to grade and shape the output of frontier AI models. You will read AI answers, judge how well the reasoning holds up, and write model solutions that show the correct method step by step. Japanese localization judgment carries real weight here, since terminology, register, and cultural nuance must stay right across every use case. Work happens on your own schedule as an hourly contractor, and English at C1 or better is needed to read prompts and evaluation guidelines. Everything you produce feeds into training data for some of the largest foundation-model labs.
What You'll Do9
- Review AI-generated answers and judge whether the logic and the final result hold up.
- Write original Japanese language content and sample solutions that demonstrate correct problem-solving.
- Score and rank competing AI responses on accuracy, reasoning quality, and how clearly each one explains itself.
- Trace errors back to faulty method or a misunderstood concept, then document what went wrong.
- Verify facts, names, dates, units, and references against dependable sources before signing off.
- Apply MQM and LQA categories and severity levels so quality calls stay consistent across reviewers.
- Keep Japanese terminology, tone, and cultural references aligned with Japan locale conventions.
- Craft prompts that span many subject areas so models meet a wide range of topics.
- Flag bias, inaccuracy, and unreliable behavior in model output for the wider team.
Requirements8
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Japanese translation, linguistics, localization, communications, or a closely related discipline.
- Native or near-native Japanese with solid command of Japan locale conventions.
- English reading and writing at C1 level or above, enough to interpret prompts, source material, and evaluation guides.
- 5 or more years of professional localization or translation work.
- Working knowledge of MQM and LQA frameworks, including severity, category, and root-cause analysis.
- Hands-on use of CAT tools and QA workflows such as translation memories, termbases, and automated checks.
- Strong editorial instincts for register, tone, inclusivity, and cultural nuance, paired with close attention to detail.
- Reliable output as an hourly contractor, with clear documentation and responsiveness across time zones.
Preferred Qualifications2
- Multilingual localization experience
- Prior work in AI data training, annotation, or evaluation
Who Should Apply
Japanese linguists with five or more years in localization or translation who want to shape how AI models reason and write. Candidates should bring MQM or LQA experience, comfort with CAT tools, and C1 English. Prior AI evaluation or annotation work sets you apart.
Salary Insight
This freelance role pays $30.00 to $40.00 per hour. That range sits in line with senior localization and language QA contracting, where rates typically climb once MQM or LQA experience and AI evaluation work enter the picture.
