Geology QA Lead for Earth Science AI Training
Overview
This remote, hourly contract role oversees quality across geology and earth science AI training projects. You review AI-generated geology explanations and trainer outputs, delivering precise written feedback aligned with project rubrics. You’ll help onboard contributors, maintain project documentation, and ensure guidance stays current as review standards evolve. A fast-moving remote QA workflow will involve collaboration with experienced earth scientists and distributed teams.
What You'll Do10
- 1Spot-check geology and earth science items to identify quality issues, delivering actionable feedback via direct messages and tracker notes.
- 2Evaluate AI-generated geology explanations, map interpretations, climate and hazard descriptions for accuracy against documented rubrics.
- 3Communicate workflow changes, quality expectations, and geology-specific review standards to trainers and QAs on Discord.
- 4Answer questions about geologic timescales, rock/mineral identification, earth systems, and spatial reasoning with precise guidance.
- 5Activate and re-engage remote contributors, tracking follow-ups and availability to maintain project momentum.
- 6Create and maintain geology/earth science project documentation, including style guides, FAQs, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
- 7Lead onboarding sessions with trainers and QAs to explain rubrics and quality standards for earth science reviews.
- 8Ensure consistent application of geology review guidelines and flag misleading or unsupported environmental claims.
- 9Identify recurring quality gaps and propose scalable QA process improvements for AI training projects.
- 10Maintain logs of QA outcomes and support continuous improvement initiatives with clear, measurable targets.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in geology or related earth science field (e.g., environmental science, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology, oceanography).
- 2Strong written and spoken English to follow guidelines and deliver clear feedback.
- 33+ years in geology or earth science research, teaching, fieldwork, environmental consulting, geospatial analysis, or science communication.
- 4Solid grasp of plate tectonics, rock cycle, mineralogy, stratigraphy, geologic time, structural geology, geomorphology, natural hazards, climate systems, hydrology, and earth system processes.
- 5Ability to evaluate earth science content against detailed rubrics and identify issues like incorrect processes or unsupported claims.
- 6Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, geologic mapping, field methods, core/log interpretation, geochemical data, climate data, Python or R, or scientific visualization is preferred.
- 7Experience leading or supporting remote teams of researchers, educators, reviewers, or annotators.
- 8Comfort working in fast-moving remote environments using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management tools.
- 9Highly detail-oriented and organized, with ability to maintain style guides, trackers, onboarding materials, calibration tasks, and documentation.
- 10Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, scientific QA, or rubric-based review is a strong plus.
