Overview

Remote, hourly contractor role focused on quality across civil engineering AI training work. You’ll review AI-generated civil engineering content and evaluate it against project rubrics, delivering precise feedback to uphold accuracy and clarity. Expect to maintain documentation, style guides, and onboarding materials to support consistent review standards. This position helps SME Careers improve the reliability of data used to train leading AI models by ensuring technical soundness and thorough documentation. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ETABS, and HEC-RAS play a central role in how outputs are interpreted and checked.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Monitor civil engineering items for quality, provide targeted feedback via DMs, and escalate critical issues when necessary.
  • 2Perform technical reviews of AI-generated explanations, structural calculations, geotechnical reasoning, and infrastructure guidance for correctness and clarity.
  • 3Keep trainers and QAs aligned by sharing guidelines, workflow updates, and rubric expectations on Discord.
  • 4Respond promptly to questions about engineering assumptions, units, formulas, loads, safety factors, and standards references with clear guidance.
  • 5Manage activity and availability of contributors, encouraging re-engagement and tracking follow-ups as needed.
  • 6Create and maintain civil engineering project documentation, including style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, and onboarding materials.
  • 7Lead onboarding and training sessions to explain project expectations, rubrics, and civil-engineering review requirements.
  • 8Ensure consistent application of engineering guidelines across trainers and QAs amid evolving projects.
  • 9Flag unsafe or misleading recommendations affecting structures, foundations, transportation systems, or public safety.
  • 10Identify recurring quality gaps and propose scalable QA process improvements for AI training projects.

Requirements9

  • 1Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field such as structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental, or construction engineering.
  • 2Strong English communication skills to follow guidelines and provide clear technical feedback.
  • 3Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in civil engineering areas like structural design, geotechnical work, transportation planning, or water resources.
  • 4Solid grasp of core topics including statics, structural analysis, reinforced concrete, steel design, soil mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology, surveying, and construction materials.
  • 5Ability to evaluate engineering content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as incorrect assumptions, unit inconsistencies, or unsafe recommendations.
  • 6Familiarity with common civil engineering tools and workflows, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ETABS, SAP2000, and HEC-RAS; ArcGIS is a plus.
  • 7Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, or QAs is strongly preferred.
  • 8Comfort working in fast-moving remote environments using Discord, Google Sheets, and project trackers.
  • 9Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain style guides, FAQs, onboarding materials, and calibration tasks.

Who Should Apply

Candidates with a solid civil engineering background who have hands-on QA leadership in remote settings will excel. You should bring demonstrable experience evaluating engineering content against rubrics and providing precise written feedback. Strong English communication and the ability to document findings clearly are essential. If you lack remote collaboration experience or deep civil engineering domain knowledge, this role may not be a strong fit. Those without exposure to AI training, data annotation, or rubric-based evaluation may face a steeper learning curve.
