Civil Engineer for Remote Contract Work in AI Training
Overview
A remote contractor role for civil engineers to contribute expertise on a high-impact customer project. You’ll help train next-generation AI systems by providing real-world input and evaluation material. Domain knowledge in civil engineering is the key; no prior AI experience required. You’ll design tasks, curate technical documents, and ensure solutions comply with codes and constraints. This work centers on authentic, practical engineering content across structural design, transportation, water systems, and site development. Civil Engineering, Code compliance, and Technical documentation are core focus areas.
What You'll Do7
- 1Design authentic evaluation tasks that reflect real-world civil engineering challenges in structural design, transportation, water systems, and site development
- 2Source and generate technical documents such as drawings, geotechnical reports, specification sheets, cost estimates, and regulatory references
- 3Create complex problems that test constraint reasoning and code adherence in engineering scenarios
- 4Identify correct engineering solutions for tasks while satisfying regulatory and geometric constraints
- 5Build comprehensive rubrics for AI assessment to grade technical accuracy and code compliance
- 6Produce and validate large sets of realistic data files (CSV, PDF, spreadsheets) typical of project documentation
- 7Collaborate with stakeholders to improve task clarity, realism, and evaluative standards
Requirements8
- 1At least 5 years of professional civil engineering experience across multiple projects
- 2Professional Engineer license or active licensure pursuit preferred
- 3Strong track record of preparing and managing technical documentation with code-compliance and design specs
- 4Experience interpreting regulatory codes and translating them into technical solutions
- 5Ability to generate or review complex artifacts such as drawings, reports, and data sets for project evaluation
- 6Excellent written communication for clear evaluation materials
- 7Proficiency in creating data-driven content used for model evaluation
- 8Ability to reason through intricate constraints and deliver practical engineering outcomes
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate is a seasoned civil engineer with hands-on project experience across structural, transportation and water systems, plus a solid grasp of codes and documentation. This role suits professionals who enjoy translating real-world engineering into structured tasks and data for AI assessment. It may be less suitable for those without PE licensure or without experience preparing formal design documentation. Common reasons for a lower fit include limited exposure to regulatory codes or a narrow project focus, and insufficient experience producing codified technical artifacts.
