Biomedical Engineer Remote AI Validation for Med Tech
Overview
This remote contract role centers on assessing AI-generated biomedical content for accuracy, clarity, and completeness across topics like biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, and medical devices. You will craft biomedical scenarios and perform calculations to probe models, testing reasoning under real-world constraints. Provide structured feedback that flags factual errors, unsafe recommendations, missing assumptions, and misapplied standards. This opportunity supports responsible biomedical engineering practice and regulatory awareness by guiding how AI content is explained and when to escalate to clinical or regulatory experts (regulatory awareness).
What You'll Do7
- 1Evaluate AI-generated outputs for technical accuracy across biomedical topics like biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, and imaging.
- 2Design and run challenging biomedical scenarios and calculations to stress test models.
- 3Review and refine AI prompts and model explanations, ensuring correct unit handling and constraint interpretation.
- 4Deliver structured feedback highlighting factual errors, unsafe recommendations, missing assumptions, and misapplication of standards.
- 5Assess model performance on topics including biomedical signals, medical device design, biomaterials, imaging & measurement, and verification & validation & risk.
- 6Help define AI communication standards for biomedical content, including how models state assumptions, risks, and when to escalate.
- 7Ensure AI-generated content aligns with responsible biomedical engineering practices, patient safety, and regulatory considerations.
Requirements6
- 14+ years of professional biomedical engineering experience across medical devices, biomechanics, biomaterials, tissue engineering, bioinstrumentation, imaging systems, biosignals, rehabilitation engineering, clinical engineering, quality/regulatory, manufacturing/validation, or related specialty.
- 2Strong grounding in biomedical engineering fundamentals such as physiology for engineers, transport phenomena, biomechanics, materials behavior in biological environments, biosignals, sensor/measurement systems, and systems modeling.
- 3Comfort with technical assumptions, unit consistency, and defensible reasoning about limitations and safety implications.
- 4Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering (or closely related); Master’s/PhD or advanced credentials strongly preferred.
- 5Experience with AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is a strong plus.
- 6Familiarity with ISO 13485, IEC 60601, ISO 14971, FDA design controls (21 CFR 820), verification & validation, risk management, biocompatibility concepts (ISO 10993), or clinical workflow constraints is a plus.
Who Should Apply
Ideal candidates bring 4+ years of direct biomedical engineering work and a track record evaluating technical content in medical contexts. They excel at precise reasoning about assumptions, unit consistency, and safety within regulatory frameworks. This remote contractor role suits those who enjoy rigorous, detail-focused analysis and contributing to AI reliability in health tech. It may not be a good fit for professionals lacking hands-on biomedical engineering experience or who prefer non-regulatory, short-cycle projects. Candidates without experience with AI data workflows or regulatory standards may score lower on fit.
