Autodesk Fusion 360 Specialist | $40-$100/hr Remote
Overview
micro1 is hiring an Autodesk Fusion 360 Specialist for a remote contract on a customer project that feeds high-quality parametric CAD data into next-generation AI systems. The tool you will use on the project is FreeCAD, and your familiarity with Autodesk Fusion 360 or SolidWorks carries straight over. You will build and audit fully parametric models of mechanical parts and assemblies from written briefs, apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and DFM, and document each design decision. No prior AI or machine learning background is required. Your domain expertise is the whole job.
What You'll Do6
- 1Build fully parametric 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies from detailed written briefs, with disciplined sketching, constraint usage, and clean feature trees.
- 2Modify existing parametric CAD files when requirements shift while keeping the model manufacturable and compliant with specs.
- 3Run model reviews for dimensional accuracy and tolerance logic, noting any deviations from design intent with clear remarks.
- 4Prepare consistent CAD outputs and written design rationale that support AI model training and data quality.
- 5Apply proven DFM judgment across processes like injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting or forging so designs hold up in production.
- 6Share design choices, feedback, and technical insights in written and verbal form to improve collaboration and project outcomes.
Requirements7
- 1Strong hands-on experience with parametric CAD platforms. FreeCAD history is ideal, but deep Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor experience is acceptable given the transferable skills.
- 2Real-world working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 (or equivalent), demonstrated through actual models or drawings.
- 3Demonstrated DFM work across at least two or three manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, or forging.
- 4At least 4 years of applied CAD modeling for tasks that mean editing existing models; 10 or more years for assignments that require building complex models from scratch.
- 5Comfortable modeling at assembly level, not just isolated parts.
- 6Exposure to reverse engineering flows such as scan-to-CAD and point cloud conversion is a strong bonus.
- 7Scripting or CAD automation experience with Python, iLogic, NX Open, or VBA is a plus for standardizing repetitive work.
Who Should Apply
A CAD specialist who thinks in constraints, tolerances, and manufacturability, not just surface geometry, will do well here. The role is less suitable for someone with only single-part modeling experience and no production context. Candidates often score low when they lack documented DFM examples across at least two or three manufacturing processes, or when they cannot explain their GD&T decisions. Another common filter is treating FreeCAD as optional; the project is built around it, so software flexibility matters as much as raw CAD skill.
Salary Insight
The role pays $40 to $100 per hour. Your exact rate will depend on experience and the complexity of the tasks assigned.

Application Tip
Submit a brief portfolio with examples of parametric parts and assemblies, naming the manufacturing process each design was intended for. Be explicit about any FreeCAD exposure, even informal, since that tool sits at the center of the project.

VerifiedSolidWorks Specialist
micro1 needs a remote contractor for a high-impact mechanical design project that supplies real-world CAD data to train next-generation AI systems. You will build parametric parts and assemblies in FreeCAD from written briefs, keep feature trees clean, and apply precise constraints. Editing existing models to meet new technical requirements is also part of the work, and every file needs clear documentation of what changed. Your SolidWorks experience carries over to FreeCAD, so this fits someone with strong parametric modeling skills. You won't need AI experience; mechanical design expertise is the qualification that counts.

Micro1
VerifiedAutodesk Inventor Specialist for Remote Contract Role
Remote Autodesk Inventor specialist who can translate detailed briefs into fully parametric 3D models using Inventor or comparable tools. You’ll review and update existing parts and assemblies, ensuring strict adherence to GD&T, tolerances, and manufacturability checks. Your work will support AI training by documenting design decisions and providing precise, clear feedback to stakeholders. Strong experience in DFM across multiple processes and reverse engineering workflows helps you stand out, with FreeCAD experience welcomed as a bridge to the project focus.
