CAD Design Expert Instructor – Remote
Listing checked October 3, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 is hiring CAD Design Experts to support a client project centered on multi-part assemblies and parametric modeling. Your domain knowledge will directly shape how AI systems learn to reason about design intent, component placement, and tolerance stack-ups. This is a remote contractor role, and no prior AI experience is needed. You will document design rationales, critique sample models, and collaborate asynchronously with the project team.
What You'll Do7
- 1Interpret product requirements and build manufacturable multi-part assemblies using advanced parametric CAD tools.
- 2Show design intent by making key calls on architecture, component placement, and tolerance stack-ups.
- 3Write design rationales, best practices, and DFM considerations that guide AI learning workflows.
- 4Create, annotate, and refine 3D models and assemblies that reflect expert-level CAD methods.
- 5Review sample designs and give detailed feedback on modeling strategies and feasibility.
- 6Work asynchronously with the project team, answering queries and explaining complex design decisions in writing and speech.
- 7Contribute educational insights or mentoring content based on your CAD expertise to improve project deliverables.
Requirements7
- 15+ years in professional CAD design, with a track record of leading design decisions on complex assemblies, including architecture, mating strategies, tolerances, and DFM principles.
- 2Mastery of a major parametric CAD package such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion, Onshape, or Solid Edge. Familiarity with FreeCAD is a plus.
- 3Ability to explain design logic, trade-offs, and assembly intent in documentation and interactive discussions.
- 4Experience mentoring, teaching, or enabling others in CAD design, whether formally or informally.
- 5A recognized CAD credential (e.g., CSWE/CSWP, Autodesk Certified Instructor/Expert Elite, ASME GDTP, SOLIDWORKS Champion) is highly valued and may substitute for a formal experience bar.
- 6Proven ability to collaborate in remote and asynchronous professional settings.
- 7Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering insightful, high-quality contributions.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has at least five years of hands-on CAD design work, with direct responsibility for complex assemblies and a deep command of parametric modeling. You should be comfortable explaining your design choices in writing and in conversation, and you likely have some experience teaching or mentoring others in CAD. This role is less suitable for someone who only creates single parts or who prefers synchronous, office-based collaboration. Candidates often get rejected when they cannot show specific examples of leading assembly architecture decisions or when they lack a clear way to articulate design intent and trade-offs.
