Autodesk Inventor Specialist for Remote Contract Role
Overview
Remote Autodesk Inventor specialist who can translate detailed briefs into fully parametric 3D models using Inventor or comparable tools. You’ll review and update existing parts and assemblies, ensuring strict adherence to GD&T, tolerances, and manufacturability checks. Your work will support AI training by documenting design decisions and providing precise, clear feedback to stakeholders. Strong experience in DFM across multiple processes and reverse engineering workflows helps you stand out, with FreeCAD experience welcomed as a bridge to the project focus.
What You'll Do7
- 1Create fully parametric 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies from written briefs using Inventor or equivalent software
- 2Update existing models to reflect changing requirements while preserving parametric links and best practices
- 3Audit CAD data for dimensional accuracy, tolerances, and manufacturability, and document gaps or issues
- 4Produce and read technical drawings with GD&T guidance per ASME Y14.5 or an equivalent standard
- 5Incorporate Design for Manufacturability considerations for processes like injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting/forging
- 6Support AI training efforts by providing clear design rationales, edits, and audit histories
- 7Communicate findings and solutions concisely in both written and verbal form to project stakeholders
Requirements7
- 1Minimum 4 years of hands-on parametric modeling for edits; 10+ years for complex creations
- 2Proven expertise in Autodesk Inventor; familiarity with FreeCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360 is highly relevant
- 3Strong GD&T knowledge with practical, real-world application (ASME Y14.5 or equivalent)
- 4DFM experience across at least two manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, sheet metal, CNC, casting)
- 5Experience with reverse engineering workflows such as scan-to-CAD or point cloud-to-model
- 6Ability to manage assembly-level designs and complex mechanical systems
- 7Familiarity with CAD automation or scripting (Python, iLogic, VBA, NX Open) to improve workflows
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has deep hands-on parametric modeling experience and strong GD&T discipline, plus a track record in DFM across multiple processes. They should be comfortable shaping parts and assemblies from written briefs and documenting rationale for AI training inputs. This role may not be suitable for someone lacking serious experience with Inventor or those who have limited exposure to assemblies, GD&T, or reverse engineering workflows. Common fit-reducing factors include minimal parametric modeling work, no exposure to ASME Y14.5 standards, or narrow process knowledge such as only one manufacturing method. Candidates who struggle with detailed documentation or clear, concise technical communication may also score lower on fit.
Salary Insight
Pay ranges from $30 to $100 per hour; exact rate will be discussed during the interview.
