Overview

Mercor is staffing an AI research project with a partner lab, and this role sits at the center of it: judging how well a large language model handles Vietnamese and shaping the data that trains it. Day to day you will read model output across translation, summarization, dialogue, and grammar correction, then flag what sounds wrong and explain why. You will also annotate Vietnamese text for grammatical, syntactic, and semantic features and rewrite passages so they meet native standards of usage. Vietnamese fluency, linguistic annotation, and a sharp eye for unnatural phrasing carry more weight here than any AI background.

What You'll Do7

  • Review Vietnamese text produced by a large language model and rate its accuracy and quality across use cases such as translation, summarization, dialogue, and grammar correction.
  • Rewrite or edit Vietnamese passages so they read as natural, culturally appropriate prose.
  • Tag Vietnamese text with grammatical, syntactic, and semantic annotations that researchers can use as training signal.
  • Log model mistakes and language gaps in a structured way so the research team can trace patterns.
  • Write up linguistic feedback that explains the reasoning behind each correction, not just the fix itself.
  • Work with AI researchers to turn those findings into changes in model behavior.
  • Keep annotation and review decisions consistent across tasks and batches as the project evolves.

Requirements6

  • Native or near-native command of Vietnamese, including grammar, syntax, and stylistics.
  • Hands-on experience with translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or NLP data work in Vietnamese.
  • Familiarity with regional variation and the nuances that decide whether a phrase fits its context.
  • Ability to catch subtle errors and phrasing that reads as unnatural to a native speaker.
  • Comfort documenting your judgments in writing for a distributed, remote team.
  • Interest in AI and language technology helps, though the source lists it as preferred rather than required.

Who Should Apply

Vietnamese linguists who have worked on translation, editing, or annotation projects and want their language judgment to feed directly into model training. Candidates with NLP data experience and a habit of writing clear, reasoned corrections will settle in fast.

Salary Insight

This role pays $30.00 per hour. Hourly rates at that level are typical for specialized linguistic evaluation and annotation work tied to LLM research, and the engagement runs on an hourly basis rather than a fixed salary.
