Overview

Turing, a research accelerator for frontier AI labs, seeks a Software Engineer to create and refine Python code for AI model training and evaluation. In this contractor role, you will curate code examples, build automated verification tools, and assess AI-generated code for efficiency and reliability. Work spans backend services, data pipelines, and ML infrastructure, with additional tasks in JavaScript (ReactJS), C++, Java, Rust, and Go. The engagement is remote, requires U.S. residency, and offers flexible hours from 10 to 40 per week for an initial month with possible extension.

What You'll Do8

  • Curate code examples and provide precise solutions to train and benchmark large language models.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code to improve efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Build agents and automated verification tools in Python that check code quality and flag error patterns.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance enterprise-level AI-driven coding solutions.
  • Hypothesize on steps in the software engineering cycle (prototyping, architecture design, API design, production implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, operational maintenance) and evaluate model capabilities on them.
  • Design verification mechanisms that automatically verify a solution to a software engineering task.
  • Work across languages including JavaScript (ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go as needed for dataset coverage.
  • Provide clear, structured evaluation rationales in written and oral form.

Requirements6

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience building production systems.
  • Strong expertise in Python with deep knowledge of frameworks, tooling, and best practices for production-grade software.
  • Experience building full-stack applications and deploying scalable software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality/review assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for clear, structured evaluation rationales.
  • Candidates must be based in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications3

  • Experience at high-scale engineering organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, or Meta.
  • Graduation from top computer science programs like Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, or Georgia Tech.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript (ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, or Go.

Who Should Apply

Engineers with at least 3 years of production software experience and deep Python skills, especially those who have built full-stack systems at high-scale companies. The role suits someone who enjoys evaluating code, designing verification tools, and working with AI teams to improve model capabilities.
