Overview

Turing, a research accelerator for frontier AI labs, seeks a software engineering evaluator to build and refine datasets that train and benchmark large language models. You will work across Python and JavaScript (React, Node.js), with additional tasks in C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go, evaluating AI-generated code for efficiency and reliability. The role involves designing verification mechanisms and building agents that check code quality across full-stack applications. This is a remote contractor position requiring at least 10 hours per week, with a one-month initial term and possible extension.

What You'll Do6

  • Curate code examples and provide precise solutions to correct code across Python, JavaScript (React, Node.js), and other languages like C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go.
  • Assess AI-generated code in both backend and frontend contexts, ensuring it meets standards for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
  • Build agents that verify code quality and detect error patterns in full-stack applications.
  • Formulate hypotheses about stages of the software engineering cycle (prototyping, architecture, API design, implementation, launch, monitoring) and evaluate model capabilities on them.
  • Design automated verification mechanisms to check solutions for software engineering tasks.

Requirements5

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience building production systems.
  • Strong full-stack development skills with Python and JavaScript (React, Node.js), comfortable working across backend and frontend codebases.
  • Experience deploying scalable, production-grade software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep knowledge of software architecture, design, debugging, and code quality assessment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate clear evaluation rationales.

Preferred Qualifications2

  • Experience at high-scale engineering organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, or Meta.
  • Graduation from leading programs like Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, or University of Pennsylvania.

Who Should Apply

Engineers with at least three years of full-stack experience in Python and JavaScript (React, Node.js) who enjoy evaluating and improving AI-generated code. The role suits someone with a strong grasp of software architecture and debugging, and clear communication skills for structured evaluations.
