Overview
Turing seeks software engineers to build and refine datasets that train, benchmark, and advance large language models. You will work mostly in Python while also touching JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go. Day to day, you evaluate and improve AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability, and you design automated verification tools that catch error patterns. The role is a contractor engagement with flexible hours (minimum 10, up to 40 per week) for an initial month, with possible extensions. Candidates must be based in the United States.
What You'll Do8
- Curate code examples and craft precise solutions that feed model training and benchmarking.
- Review AI-generated code and make corrections to improve efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
- Develop agents and automated verification tools in Python that check code quality and flag error patterns.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to strengthen AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
- Form hypotheses about stages of the software engineering cycle (prototyping, architecture, API design, production implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, maintenance) and test model capabilities on them.
- Design verification mechanisms that can automatically validate solutions to software engineering tasks.
- Provide clear, structured written rationales for evaluation decisions.
- Work primarily in Python, with additional tasks in JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go.
Requirements6
- 3 or more years of software engineering experience.
- Strong Python expertise, including frameworks, tooling, and best practices for production-grade software.
- Experience building full-stack applications and deploying scalable software with modern languages and tools.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality/review assessment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for structured evaluation rationales.
- Must be based in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications2
- Experience shipping high-impact products at high-growth companies such as Stripe, Airbnb, Cloudflare, Datadog, or Coinbase.
- Graduation from leading programs such as Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, or University of Pennsylvania (exceptional experience and skill take precedence over pedigree).
Who Should Apply
Candidates with at least 3 years of software engineering experience and strong Python skills, who have built and deployed full-stack applications, will thrive in this evaluation-focused role. The position suits engineers who can assess code quality, debug complex systems, and communicate clear technical rationales, and who are based in the United States.
