Overview

Mercor is looking for senior regulatory law professionals to help train AI systems that operate in compliance and government affairs. You'll create evaluation tasks, draft reference answers, and build scoring rubrics that capture how expert regulatory counsel actually think. The work covers both US and international regulatory frameworks, and is fully remote at an hourly rate.

What You'll Do5

  • 1Design realistic scenarios that span compliance program development, agency investigations, enforcement actions, and rulemaking or public comment processes.
  • 2Build evaluation tasks across fields like financial services, FDA and healthcare, antitrust and competition, data privacy and cybersecurity, and environmental or energy regulation.
  • 3Construct exercises that involve regulatory intelligence tools, compliance management platforms, and government filing systems commonly used in regulated industries.
  • 4Apply core regulatory methods — such as interpretation, risk assessment, and enforcement strategy — to US or international standards, and produce sample compliance memos, regulatory filings, and enforcement response documents.
  • 5Write grading rubrics that tell the difference between genuine regulatory judgment and textbook-level legal knowledge.

Requirements4

  • 1At least 5 years as a regulatory attorney or compliance counsel at a major law firm, regulated company, or government agency — for example, in-house compliance roles at banks, pharma companies, or tech firms.
  • 2Hands-on ownership of compliance programs, agency interactions, or enforcement matters.
  • 3Comfort with regulatory tools and a solid grasp of how administrative process and agency rulemaking really operate in practice.
  • 4A JD with bar admission (or an international equivalent) is strongly preferred; experience writing rubrics, training materials, or compliance documentation is a plus.

Who Should Apply

This is for senior legal professionals who think the way experienced regulatory counsel do — not just lawyers who memorized statutes. You should enjoy translating complex regulatory judgment into structured tasks that an AI evaluation pipeline can use, and be comfortable working independently on a contract basis.

Salary Insight

Hourly compensation is $90-$100 per hour, with a fully remote, contract arrangement.

Application Tip

Instead of just listing your law firm or company, include two or three snapshots of specific regulatory matters you've led — then briefly explain how you'd turn one into an evaluation task for an AI system. That will show you understand both the legal substance and the AI training context.
