Overview
Turing, a research accelerator for frontier AI labs, needs privacy and data protection law experts to join projects that fine-tune large language models like ChatGPT. Your work will center on CCPA/CPRA compliance, state privacy frameworks, data breach response, and cross-border data transfers, using your legal background to judge how AI reasons about privacy law. No prior AI experience is required; your U.S. privacy law practice is the core qualification. Expect a flexible, fully remote engagement of about one month, with 10 to 30 hours per week and the chance to extend based on performance.
What You'll Do5
- Evaluate AI-generated answers to hypothetical U.S. privacy law scenarios, covering CCPA/CPRA consumer rights, state breach notification rules, COPPA compliance, and FTC Section 5 enforcement.
- Apply a structured legal rubric to check issue spotting, statutory accuracy, and correct use of state privacy frameworks (Virginia CDPA, Colorado CPA, Connecticut CTDPA) and federal sectoral laws.
- Spot weaknesses in AI reasoning on data minimization, consumer opt-out rights, vendor management, cross-border transfer mechanisms, and biometric privacy laws (BIPA).
- Write detailed annotations and feedback that help refine AI model performance.
- Work with researchers and project managers to keep evaluation standards aligned with project goals.
Requirements6
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Active or inactive bar admission.
- At least 3 years of U.S. legal practice in privacy law, data protection, cybersecurity law, or technology transactions.
- Solid grounding in CCPA/CPRA, state privacy laws, COPPA, HIPAA privacy provisions, and FTC enforcement frameworks.
- Strong written communication and close attention to detail.
- High ethical standards.
Preferred Qualifications1
- Interest in AI.
Who Should Apply
Candidates with a J.D. from a U.S. law school, active or inactive bar status, and 3+ years of privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, or tech transactions practice. The role suits lawyers who know CCPA/CPRA, state privacy statutes, COPPA, HIPAA, and FTC enforcement and want to apply that knowledge to AI model evaluation.
