Overview

Turing is hiring U.S. IP law experts to fine-tune large language models like ChatGPT on intellectual property reasoning. You'll assess how AI handles patent eligibility under Alice/Mayo, trademark confusion, copyright fair use, and trade secret misappropriation. Your annotations and written feedback train models to apply the Patent Act, Lanham Act, and Copyright Act accurately. No AI background needed. The work is remote, flexible at 10 to 30 hours per week, and runs about one month with possible extension.

What You'll Do7

  • Evaluate AI answers to U.S. IP hypotheticals, including patent eligibility, likelihood of confusion, fair use, and misappropriation scenarios.
  • Apply a structured rubric to judge issue spotting, doctrinal accuracy, and statutory application.
  • Flag gaps in AI reasoning around claim construction, prior art, distinctiveness, and DMCA safe harbors.
  • Write detailed annotations and feedback that help improve model performance.
  • Work with researchers and project managers to keep evaluation standards consistent.
  • Review model outputs for legal soundness across patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Meet project deadlines while maintaining high accuracy in written assessments.

Requirements6

  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Active or inactive bar admission.
  • At least 3 years of U.S. legal practice in intellectual property.
  • Strong analytic skills across IP prosecution, litigation, licensing, and enforcement.
  • Excellent written communication and close attention to detail.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards.

Preferred Qualifications2

  • Patent Bar registration.
  • Interest in AI.

Who Should Apply

Candidates with a J.D., active or inactive bar membership, and 3+ years of U.S. IP practice who want to apply their legal expertise to AI training. The role suits attorneys who enjoy precise legal analysis and written feedback.
