Payroll and Accounts Payable Analyst | $130k/yr Remote
Overview
Own the full payroll and accounts payable cycle for a US-based remote startup. Process payroll for all pay frequencies, manage vendor invoices and payments, and reconcile subledgers to the general ledger. Ensure payroll taxes, garnishments, and benefits deductions stay compliant with federal and state rules. Work in a fast-moving startup where finance operations sit at the center of company trust. This role pairs hands-on processing with broader process improvement and automation.
What You'll Do12
- 1Manage complete payroll cycles from start to finish, covering new hires, terminations, status changes, bonuses, commissions, and off-cycle payroll runs.
- 2Compute and reconcile payroll taxes, garnishments, benefit deductions, and 401(k) contributions, then remit them while staying compliant with federal, state, and local rules.
- 3Handle the entire accounts payable workflow: invoice intake, GL coding, approval routing, and vendor payments through ACH, checks, and wires.
- 4Match invoices against purchase orders and receipts, and resolve mismatches with vendors and internal teams.
- 5Keep vendor master data accurate, gather W-9 forms, and prepare and submit annual 1099s.
- 6Reconcile payroll and A/P subledgers against the general ledger, and draft journal entries and accruals for month-end close.
- 7Track accounts payable aging and payment terms to improve cash flow and lock in early-payment discounts.
- 8Oversee employee expense reimbursements and corporate card programs, making sure policies are followed.
- 9Answer payroll questions from employees and payment queries from vendors accurately and confidentially.
- 10Assist internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documents, and reconciliations.
- 11Strengthen internal controls for both payroll and accounts payable processes.
- 12Spot and implement automation opportunities to scale payroll and A/P workflows as the company expands.

- 5Practical experience with a payroll platform and an ERP or accounting system
- 6High proficiency in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel
- 7Meticulous and discreet when handling confidential payroll and financial information
- 8Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet recurring, hard deadlines

- 10Comfortable working alone in a fully remote, fast-moving startup
Who Should Apply
This role suits a detail-oriented finance professional with 2-4 years of hands-on payroll and accounts payable experience, who can own the entire process independently and knows payroll taxes. If you thrive on routine deadlines and keep confidential data secure, you'll fit right in. It's not for someone who needs constant supervision or lacks experience with payroll platforms and ERP systems. Candidates often get rejected for missing payroll tax expertise or weak spreadsheets skills, so be ready to prove your accuracy.
Salary Insight
The base salary for this full-time role is $70,000 to $90,000, with equity, performance bonuses, and a benefits package including health insurance reimbursement, PTO, and 401(k) match.
