Nuclear Physicist (Remote) Contract Expert
Listing checked September 10, 2026 · pay as published by SME Careers
Overview
In this remote hourly contract, you act as a Nuclear Physics SME to review AI-generated content and generate high-quality reference material on radioactive decay, nuclear structure, fission, fusion, and detector physics using tools like geant4 and mcnp. You’ll assess correctness, unit consistency, and safety claims, then provide precise written feedback and model answers that demonstrate best practices in nuclear physics explanations. Your work directly supports AI model training for top labs by producing clear, accurate, and safety-aware content. Expect collaboration with a fast-moving data services team and flexible scheduling across time zones.
What You'll Do6
- 1Review AI-generated nuclear physics content for accuracy across topics such as radioactive decay, nuclear structure, fission, fusion, detectors, shielding, and reactors, referencing geant4 and mcnp validation results.
- 2Create concise, high-quality reference explanations and model answers that demonstrate clear step-by-step reasoning for complex concepts, supported by python data checks and dosimetry considerations.
- 3Rate and compare AI responses, scoring on correctness, physical reasoning, unit consistency, and safety awareness with attention to cross_sections.
- 4Identify unsafe or misleading content and flag for correction, verifying against nuclear_data_libraries and established safety principles.
- 5Provide precise written feedback and concrete rewrites that improve model outputs and align with established physics standards, supported by technical_writing practices.
- 6Document evaluations to support ongoing QA datasets and future prompts in ai_training_content.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physics, Nuclear Physics, Applied Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Science, Engineering Physics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, with grounding in nuclear_physics and radiation_science.
- 23+ years of experience in nuclear physics, physics research, radiation science, nuclear engineering, teaching, technical writing, academic review, or related scientific work, with hands-on experience in python data analyses.
- 3Strong professional proficiency in English, minimum C1, to follow guidelines and provide detailed feedback in English, and clear communication in english.
- 4Deep understanding of atomic nuclei, radioactive decay, half-life, binding energy, nuclear reactions, radiation types, fission, fusion, detectors, shielding, and radiation safety principles, including familiarity with gamma_spectroscopy and dosimetry concepts.
- 5Ability to evaluate nuclear physics explanations, derivations, calculations, diagrams, experimental interpretations, and safety-related claims for scientific accuracy and clarity, with attention to geant4-style validation.
- 6Comfortable identifying hallucinated claims, incorrect formulas, unsafe advice, flawed reasoning, unit errors, misleading simplifications, or unsupported nuclear/radiation statements, aided by awareness of cross_sections.
- 7High attention to detail when reviewing units, decay chains, reaction notation, cross sections, isotope terminology, dose concepts, and physical assumptions, with emphasis on dosimetry.
- 8Reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly, remote contractor workflow across time zones.
- 9Prior experience with AI data training/annotation, scientific QA, academic QA, physics content review, or rubric-based evaluation is strongly preferred, including exposure to ai_training_content.
Who Should Apply
Ideal candidates hold a physics or related engineering degree and bring 3+ years in nuclear physics or radiation science. Strong English communication is essential to provide clear feedback and follow guidelines. Experience with AI data training or scientific QA is highly valued. This role suits professionals who can work independently from a remote setting and deliver consistent quality across time zones. It may be less suitable for applicants without hands-on physics experience or those unable to write precise technical reviews.

SME Careers
VerifiedPhysicist for AI Training Content Review Remote Contract
SME Careers seeks a qualified physicist to join a remote, contract AI training initiative. You will review AI training responses and assess the quality of their reasoning, then craft clear physics explanations that illustrate correct methods. You will perform fact-checking across physics topics against public sources and provide targeted feedback to improve model outputs. There is no active project yet, but top experts will be contacted first when relevant opportunities arise for remote contract work.

Handshake AI
VerifiedNuclear Professional - AI Research Project
Handshake AI hires nuclear professionals for a temporary, per-hour AI research project. You review what AI models generate about nuclear work, judge domain content, and send organized feedback that helps the model grasp your field's tasks and language. You do not need an AI background. The program runs year-round, and new project slots open at different times across areas of expertise.

VerifiedCbrn Specialist (Remote) Contract
Glide into a remote contractor role focused on CBRN safety and AI content evaluation. Review AI-generated outputs on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear topics for accuracy, safety, and policy alignment, and craft high-quality reference content to guide safe AI behavior. Your work supports precise terminology, risk framing, and responsible public-safety guidance across time zones.

Mercor
VerifiedNuclear Security Engineer (Remote, Task-Based)
A panel of nuclear materials and safeguards specialists will red-team frontier AI models for Mercor, testing how well a model judges misuse potential. You write single-turn prompts at three levels: benign, dual-use, and adversarial, then judge model replies against a policy standard and draft the reference answer with technical reasoning. The work sits on the dual-use line where a material-balance calculation can close an inspector's account or hide a gap. Expect sustained reading and writing about misuse scenarios, with briefings and freedom to pause without penalty.

Mercor
VerifiedNuclear Fuel Cycle Engineer - Remote Task-Based
A task-based remote role puts you on a panel of nuclear fuel cycle and safeguards specialists who red-team frontier AI models. The core question is whether a model can tell a legitimate technical request from a misuse request, answering safe questions in full while refusing dangerous ones. You write single-turn prompts across benign, dual-use, and adversarial levels, then judge model replies against a set policy. Because fuel-cycle work sits on the dual-use line, the panel needs practitioners who know which parameters are routine engineering and which point toward proliferation. Your written reference answers show what a correct response should look like and why.

Micro1
VerifiedPhysics Expert for AI Training and Content Review
A remote contractor role for physics experts with a PhD to contribute to an AI development project. You’ll use your deep physics knowledge to train models, review and generate technical content, and provide clear scientific feedback to ensure accuracy. No AI background required, just strong domain insight and the ability to explain complex ideas in writing and speech. Your work helps shape how models learn, reason, and perform by supplying high-quality real-world input and analysis. Expect collaboration with project stakeholders and a focus on precision and depth in every task. Bold advanced physics and technical writing as you translate concepts for AI interpretation.
