Overview

A remote role for a commercial attorney who will begin by handling data licensing, inbound technology agreements, marketing contracts, and procurement matters. You’ll work with cross-functional teams in a fast moving environment and grow into broader commercial responsibilities as the company scales. The role emphasizes solid contracting fundamentals, strong judgment, and the ability to learn the business quickly. The position offers remote-first flexibility with an option to work from the San Francisco office.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Draft, review, and negotiate data licensing, marketing, and inbound technology agreements while balancing business needs and legal risk.
  • 2Assist with vendor agreements, partnerships, statements of work, and NDAs to support commercial operations.
  • 3Partner with internal teams to translate legal terms into clear, business-focused guidance for stakeholders.
  • 4Develop a deep understanding of the company’s products, data flows, and technical environment to inform risk decisions.
  • 5Navigate questions with limited precedent, deciding when to escalate or make a call based on business impact.
  • 6Contribute to templates, negotiation playbooks, fallback positions, and self-service resources to speed up deals.
  • 7Identify opportunities to speed up contracting through AI-assisted review, intake, automation, and knowledge management.
  • 8Help shape scalable legal processes as the business and its relationships grow in complexity.

Requirements8

  • 1Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar admission in at least one U.S. state.
  • 2Strong academic credentials and solid foundational legal training.
  • 3Significant experience drafting and negotiating sophisticated commercial and technology agreements, especially those involving data, software, technology, or intellectual property.
  • 4Excellent legal judgment with the ability to distinguish theoretical risk from materially impactful business risk.
  • 5Ability to quickly grasp technical products, business models, and unfamiliar legal areas.
  • 6Exceptional written and verbal communication with clarity and precision.
  • 7High curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to develop expertise in emerging areas.
  • 8Ability to take ownership and operate independently in a fast-moving, asynchronous environment.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial attorney with a track record in data licensing, software, or technology agreements and the ability to understand complex products. This role suits someone who can move fast, work with diverse internal teams, and grow into broader responsibilities. It may be less suitable for someone who prefers rigid processes or needs extensive hands-on supervision. Common fit challenges include limited experience with data rights or AI-related issues, and difficulty translating legal risk into business recommendations.

Salary Insight

The posting indicates a base salary range of 200,000 to 250,000 for this full-time role. Equity and performance-based bonuses may also be available, subject to company policies. Pay discussions occur as part of the process.
