Overview
Mercor partners with a leading research lab on an AI project that depends on strong Malay language judgment. You will test how well a large language model handles Malay translation, summarization, dialogue, and grammar correction, then refine the model's output to meet linguistic and cultural standards. The work also includes linguistic annotation of Malay text for grammar, syntax, and meaning, plus clear feedback to AI researchers. Your analysis will guide model training and help close language gaps the model still shows.
What You'll Do6
- Review Malay text produced by a large language model for accuracy and quality across translation, summarization, dialogue, and grammar correction tasks.
- Edit or rewrite Malay content so it meets linguistic and cultural standards.
- Annotate Malay text for grammatical, syntactic, and semantic features.
- Flag errors and language gaps in model output, then work with AI researchers to address them.
- Write detailed linguistic feedback and analysis that informs ongoing model training.
- Compare regional variations and context-specific usage when judging whether Malay phrasing sounds natural.
Requirements6
- Near-native or native fluency in Malay with strong control of grammar, syntax, and style.
- Professional background in Malay translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or NLP data work.
- Ability to judge nuance, regional variation, and context-appropriate usage.
- Interest in AI and LLM language technology helps, though the source marks it as preferred rather than required.
- Sharp eye for subtle errors and unnatural phrasing.
- Clear communication and experience in distributed remote teams.
Who Should Apply
Malay language professionals with translation, editing, or annotation experience fit this role well. The ideal candidate can spot subtle grammar and style errors in model output, explain those issues in clear feedback, and work with researchers across a remote team. Prior NLP data work or an interest in LLMs adds value.
Salary Insight
This role pays $30.00/hr on an hourly engagement. For specialized Malay review tied to LLM evaluation, that rate fits candidates with professional translation, editing, or annotation experience; final pay terms may depend on project scope.
