Overview

micro1 seeks Humanitarian Aid Representatives to bring field expertise in civilian protection into AI training. You will design and review scenarios about civilian harm, protected persons, and the limits of legitimate activity, all grounded in International Humanitarian Law (IHL). No AI background is needed. Your domain knowledge and clear documentation will directly shape how models handle complex humanitarian concerns.

What You'll Do6

  • Create detailed cases and scenarios on civilian protection, proportionality, and humanitarian constraints for AI model evaluation.
  • Grade AI-generated responses for accuracy, depth of reasoning, and sensitivity to civilian-harm issues.
  • Flag responses that show excessive caution or insufficient restraint, noting the humanitarian implications.
  • Document ambiguous or difficult cases from a humanitarian perspective to guide future training.
  • Work with project stakeholders to clarify humanitarian concepts and contribute to IHL-related reasoning guidance.
  • Keep precise, context-rich records of findings and recommendations.

Requirements7

  • Background in humanitarian operations, protection, or policy with organizations such as ICRC/Red Cross, UN agencies, or major NGOs.
  • Solid grounding in International Humanitarian Law and civilian-protection principles.
  • Experience teaching, training, or leading field work related to humanitarian action or IHL dissemination.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, especially for crafting and reviewing complex case material.
  • Proven ability to apply proportionality reasoning in conflict or protection scenarios.
  • Experience documenting or reporting on edge cases or challenging humanitarian situations.
  • Conflict-zone fieldwork, protection-cluster participation, or IHL-dissemination experience is highly valued.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate has hands-on humanitarian or protection experience with ICRC, UN agencies, or major NGOs, a strong command of IHL, and a knack for writing clear, nuanced case material. If you have applied proportionality reasoning in conflict settings and can document complex situations with precision, this role fits.

Salary Insight

The rate is $30 to $70 per hour. Final pay is discussed during the hiring process.

Application tip

In your application, highlight specific IHL dissemination or protection-cluster work and quantify your experience, such as the number of cases reviewed or trainings led. Use exact terms like proportionality reasoning and civilian-protection principles to show direct fit.
