Overview
micro1 is building an AI system that needs to understand military operations, armed conflict, and defense decision-making. As a Defense Analyst, you will review AI-generated scenarios for accuracy and realism, flag errors in reasoning or facts, and give structured feedback that helps the model improve. The work is remote and contractor-based, with a focus on international humanitarian law (IHL) and operational constraints. Your expertise will directly shape how AI handles complex defense topics.
What You'll Do8
- Review AI-generated scenarios that involve military operations, armed conflict, and defense planning.
- Check whether described military capabilities, operational assumptions, and conflict analysis hold up to real-world standards.
- Assess scenarios that deal with civilian protection, operational limits, and the application of international humanitarian law (IHL).
- Spot factual mistakes, weak logic, and unrealistic assumptions in the AI output.
- Write clear, organized feedback that points out what is wrong and how to fix it.
- Evaluate how well the AI applies rules of engagement (ROE) and civilian protection principles in scenario-based content.
- Compare AI-generated analysis against established defense research and operational planning practices.
- Provide expert judgment on defense-related decision-making portrayed in the scenarios.
Requirements8

- Experience in defense research, military capabilities assessment, conflict analysis, or operational planning.
- Solid grasp of military operations, armed conflict dynamics, and defense decision-making processes.
- Ability to break down complex scenarios and explain your findings in writing.
- Prior work with defense organizations, government agencies, research institutes, think tanks, or international organizations is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of international humanitarian law (IHL), Rules of Engagement (ROE), or civilian protection is a plus.
- Strong analytical reasoning and attention to detail when reviewing scenario content.
- Clear written communication skills for delivering structured feedback.
