Overview
micro1 is building an AI system that needs to reason about military operations, armed conflict, and defense decision-making. As a civilian defense analyst, you will review AI-generated scenarios for accuracy and realism, flag errors in reasoning or assumptions, and write structured feedback that helps the model improve. The work is remote and contractor-based, with a focus on military capabilities, operational constraints, and international humanitarian law (IHL).
What You'll Do7
- Review AI-generated scenarios that involve military operations, armed conflict, and defense planning.
- Check whether described military capabilities, operational assumptions, and conflict analysis hold up to real-world standards.
- Assess scenarios that touch on civilian protection, operational limits, and the application of international humanitarian law (IHL).
- Spot factual mistakes, weak reasoning, and unrealistic assumptions in the AI's output.
- Write clear, organized feedback that explains what is wrong and how the AI's reasoning can be corrected.
- Apply your background in defense research or operational planning to judge the credibility of each scenario.
- Document your findings in a way that helps the project team track recurring issues and improve the model over time.
Requirements8
- Professional experience as a defense analyst, military operations analyst, conflict analyst, or national security researcher.
- A background in defense research, military capabilities assessment, conflict analysis, or operational planning.
- Solid grasp of military operations, armed conflict, and how defense-related decisions are made.
- Ability to work through complex scenarios and explain your findings in clear written form.
- Experience with defense organizations, government agencies, research institutes, think tanks, or international organizations is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with international humanitarian law (IHL), Rules of Engagement (ROE), or civilian protection is a plus.
- Critical thinking skills that let you separate plausible analysis from flawed reasoning.
- Strong writing and communication skills, since all feedback is delivered in writing.
Who Should Apply
Civilian defense analysts with hands-on experience in military operations, conflict analysis, or national security research. The role suits someone who can read a scenario, spot unrealistic assumptions, and explain the problems in plain written feedback. A background with defense agencies, think tanks, or international organizations helps, and knowledge of IHL or ROE is a bonus.

Application tip
In your application, name the specific defense or conflict analysis work you have done and the organizations you did it for. If you have direct experience with IHL, ROE, or civilian protection, state it in the first few lines, since the source lists it as a plus.
