Hospitalist Reviewer - Remote Clinical Documentation
Listing checked October 10, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 seeks experienced hospitalists to join a project centered on inpatient quality and documentation. You will examine H&Ps, progress notes, and discharge summaries for clinical accuracy, completeness, and fidelity to the patient encounter. The work involves adjudicating discrepancies, flagging clinically significant errors or omissions, and applying consistent quality standards. This is a remote contractor role for physicians who enjoy articulating nuanced clinical reasoning in written and verbal formats.
What You'll Do6
- 1Evaluate inpatient clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and clinical appropriateness.
- 2Resolve ambiguous or conflicting information and deliver clear, well-reasoned judgments.
- 3Detect clinically significant errors, omissions, or inconsistencies and classify them by severity.
- 4Apply structured rubrics and quality criteria uniformly across all cases.
- 5Write concise rationales that support each adjudication decision.
- 6Help refine review guidelines and quality standards.
Requirements6
- 1MD or DO with board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- 2At least 5 years as an attending hospitalist, or proven leadership of documentation audit programs.
- 3Strong grasp of inpatient documentation standards and hospital QA processes.
- 4Experience with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) programs is a plus.
- 5Understanding of how documentation affects coding, billing, and compliance.
- 6Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
Who Should Apply
This role suits board-certified internists or family medicine physicians who have spent years on inpatient services and are comfortable dissecting H&Ps, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Candidates with CDI experience or a background in documentation audit leadership will stand out. The work is less suitable for clinicians who prefer direct patient care over chart review or who dislike writing detailed rationales. A common reason candidates get rejected is lacking the required 5+ years of attending hospitalist experience. Another is not showing familiarity with how documentation ties into coding, billing, and compliance.
