Film & Video Craft Expert (Camera, VFX, Editing & Performance)
Listing checked October 16, 2026 · pay as published by Mercor
Overview
An AI lab needs film, theater, and visual effects professionals to judge how well its video models handle real craft. You will compare pairs of AI-generated clips from the same prompt and pick the stronger one on lighting and grade, framing, camera and lens direction, physical realism, continuity, and acting. The work runs in rounds tied to new model releases, so your reviews help train and refine the system over time. The role runs part-time and remote as W-2 employment through Cincinnatus LLC, with placement on the lab's extended workforce.
What You'll Do6
- 1Compare two AI-generated videos built from the same prompt and pick the version that holds up better on craft axes like lighting, framing, camera movement, continuity, and performance.
- 2Write brief, exact notes for each call that point to what succeeded and what failed, using the kind of language a supervisor uses in dailies.
- 3Verify whether each clip delivers the prompt's requested lens, framing, camera move, or performance, and note any gaps.
- 4Join calibration sessions with other raters to keep judgments aligned across the pool.
- 5Raise unclear prompts or guidelines so the evaluation team can fix them.
- 6Work with other subject matter experts to keep evaluation data consistent and accurate.
Requirements7
- 1Hands-on experience in at least one area: film or theater, character animation for human performance, character technical direction, acting coaching, directing (crowd and background action), assistant directing, compositing, lighting, texture or surfacing, render wrangling, color or digital imaging, camera department, editing, or display and AV quality assurance.
- 2Either completed training at a respected film, theater, or animation program plus 2 or more years of practical work, or 4 or more years of practical work that includes at least two theatrically released projects.
- 3A sharp eye for on-screen detail and the ability to describe it in clear, specific language.
- 4Fluency in English. A second dubbing language (French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, or Hindi) is a strong plus.
- 5Reliable access to a high-quality display and headphones for reviewing video and dialogue.
- 6Availability for at least 20 hours each week during weekdays.
- 7Strong written communication skills and comfort explaining creative judgments in plain terms.
Who Should Apply
Film, theater, and VFX professionals with a trained eye for lighting, camera work, continuity, and performance. Ideal candidates can defend a craft judgment in plain written English and commit at least 20 weekday hours. A second dubbing language helps.

AfterQuery
VerifiedVideo Editor & Post Production Expert
AfterQuery builds expert evaluation and training data that frontier AI labs use to gauge model performance on real professional work. In this remote contract, video editors create realistic post production scenarios that start with raw footage and end at a final cut, then grade AI-generated video for continuity, pacing, motion quality and client readiness. You would also write critiques that explain editorial choices, and demonstrate timeline and motion workflows in tools such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or After Effects. Editors with motion graphics or animation depth can fold that work into the same role, while everyone sets their own hours with a minimum of 10 per week.

Mercor
VerifiedVideo Editing Professional
The project assembles a panel of professional video editors to create post-production tasks that train and evaluate AI agents. Each assignment gives an agent the package a junior editor receives: source footage, a brief, and a deliverable spec, plus a hidden answer key or rubric so the team judges the finished video on the edit itself. Editors work in their own software, such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer, and supply footage they shot and own. Expect about 12 hours each week on an engagement paid by the hour, with remote work. The panel is not open to residents of California.

AfterQuery
VerifiedProducer and Director Expert
AfterQuery builds training material that helps AI models reason through creative work, and this contract asks a producer or director to design the production side of that effort. You will write and review challenges about script interpretation, shot composition, talent direction, scheduling, budgets, and post-production workflows. The work runs remote and asynchronous at about 10 hours each week, so you can fit it around active production commitments. Your feedback shapes how well the models handle real decisions that film, television, and theater teams face.

Turing
VerifiedDomain Expert - TV Show & Movies
Turing is hiring a TV Shows & Movies Domain Expert for an 8-week contractor assignment focused on evaluating and improving large language models. The day-to-day work centers on creating prompts of varying difficulty across entertainment topics, then comparing and ranking AI responses. The expert will judge responses for factual accuracy, reasoning, completeness, and nuance, and will flag hallucinations, outdated information, and edge cases. This remote role is open to US-based candidates who can commit 40 hours per week with 4 hours of daily overlap with PST.

AfterQuery
VerifiedAudio Video Technician Expert
AfterQuery, a YC-backed startup, needs audio/video technicians to build and review challenges that test AI models on production principles. You will write questions about signal flow, mic placement, lighting, camera work, mixing, editing, troubleshooting and live streaming. You also score model answers and give detailed feedback so the AI meets real-world audiovisual standards. The contract runs remote and asynchronous at about 15 hours each week.

Mercor
VerifiedSenior Character Animator
Mercor seeks senior character animators for a GenAI team at a top AI lab. The project builds a performance transfer model that carries an actor's timing, emotion, and physical choices into new output. You will set quality bars, critique model results, and design benchmarks for human reviewers. The job is part-time W-2 through Cincinnatus LLC, remote with one or two in-person sessions each month in Playa Vista or New York.
