Overview
A top AI lab needs a VFX and compositing expert to help shape generative video models built for feature-level visual effects and preproduction. You will set the quality bar for micro detail, multi-layer integration, physics, previs, and concept art, then judge model output against that bar. Day to day work includes frame-by-frame review, benchmark curation, and precise notes on temporal instability, compositing seams, spill, and fine detail. The role runs about 40 hours per week on weekdays as a W-2 position with Cincinnatus LLC, placed inside the AI lab's extended team.
What You'll Do6
- Define quality standards and an artifact taxonomy for micro detail, multi-layer integration, physics, previs, and concept art, then assess current evaluations against those standards.
- Build and curate benchmark sets with strong examples and hard cases across VFX, simulation, previs, and concept work, then test early model output against them.
- Review generated footage frame by frame and write actionable notes on temporal instability, compositing seams, spill, physics, and fine detail.
- Help shape reviewer vetting and calibration so human judgments stay consistent across the pool.
- Audit captioning guidelines to ensure descriptions capture VFX, physics, and preproduction detail with accuracy.
- Partner with other domain experts to align evaluation methods and resolve disagreements.
Requirements8
- 7+ years of professional work in feature VFX, animation, or virtual production.
- Screen credits on at least 2 professional films.
- Experience as a VFX Supervisor, Compositing Supervisor, Lead Nuke or Flame Compositor, FX Technical Director, CG Supervisor, Previs or Postvis Supervisor, or Senior Concept Artist, Matte Painter, or Visual Development Artist.
- Sharp eye for temporal instability, compositing seams, spill, physics, and micro detail.
- Hands-on practice with generative tools for concept art, previs, and test samples used in comparisons.
- Reliable access to a 4K display for pixel-level review (nice to have).
- Availability for about 40 hours per week on weekdays.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate VFX, physics, and preproduction detail into precise caption and evaluation language.
Who Should Apply
Candidates with 7+ years in feature VFX and credits on at least two films will find the strongest fit, with weight on supervisors or leads from compositing, FX, CG, previs, or concept art. A sharp eye for seams and physical behavior matters as much as hands-on use of generative tools.
Salary Insight
The $70 to $110 per hour range reflects the seniority of the role: 7+ years of feature VFX experience and supervisor-level credits support a rate near the top, while strong specialists with fewer supervision credits may land toward the lower end.
Application tip
Lead your application with supervisor or lead credits on at least two films, then name the exact tools you use for compositing or FX review, such as Nuke, Flame, or a specific generative video workflow. Add one short sample of frame-by-frame notes so reviewers can see how you spot seams, spill, and temporal instability.
