Overview
Mercor needs senior electrical engineers to build evaluation tasks that test how well AI systems reason about enterprise-grade electrical work. You will design realistic scenarios drawn from Fortune 500 product design and power environments, then write the reference answers and grading rubrics that separate sound engineering judgment from textbook recall. The work splits into two standards tracks: an International path built on IEC and a US path covering NEC / NFPA 70, NESC, and IEEE. Experts who hold credentials in either track, or both, are welcome to apply. Projects span circuit and systems design, grid infrastructure, semiconductors, embedded firmware, and control engineering.
What You'll Do8
- Write enterprise electrical engineering scenarios that reflect full circuit and systems design cycles at Fortune 500 accounts.
- Cover multi-stakeholder design reviews and the manufacturing or regulatory certification steps that follow them.
- Create tasks touching power systems and grid infrastructure, semiconductor and PCB design, embedded firmware, signal processing, and control systems.
- Frame problems around tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence, MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE simulators, and enterprise PLM or EDA platforms.
- Apply circuit analysis and simulation, EMC/EMI compliance, control theory, and reliability or failure mode analysis to each scenario.
- Align every task with the standards track it targets, whether US (NEC / NFPA 70, NESC, IEEE) or International (IEC).
- Produce reference design specs, engineering analyses, and technical narratives pitched at an executive audience.
- Author rubrics that separate genuine enterprise engineering judgment from generic coursework-level answers.
Requirements5
- 5 or more years as an electrical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 company or a major technology, industrial, or energy firm.
- Hands-on ownership of large-scale circuit designs, power systems, or engineering certification programs.
- Working command of enterprise electrical tooling and methods, including simulation and design platforms.
- Knowledge of how safety standards, regulatory certification, and cross-functional design governance operate in practice.
- Ability to write clear technical documentation that senior engineering leaders would recognize as credible.
Preferred Qualifications2
- Professional engineering credential (US PE, or an international equivalent such as CEng or EUR ING).
- Prior authorship of rubrics, engineering training curricula, or design documentation.
Who Should Apply
Electrical engineers with 5+ years at Fortune 500 or major industrial, energy, or technology firms who have owned large circuit, power, or certification programs. Candidates fluent in Altium, Cadence, MATLAB/Simulink, or SPICE and comfortable writing rubrics will settle in fast.
Salary Insight
This engagement pays $80.00 per hour. That rate sits at the higher end for contract electrical engineering writing work and generally matches someone with a senior background plus standards expertise in NEC, IEC, or IEEE.
