Overview
Mercor needs experienced electrical engineers to create and check technical tasks that train AI on circuits, power electronics, control systems, and electrical infrastructure. You will build native engineering files, run simulations, debug models, and write reference solutions for each task. Work may follow a US standards track such as NEC/NFPA 70, NESC, or IEEE, or an international track built around IEC. Each task needs checks that separate a design that works from one that only looks correct.
What You'll Do6
- Build realistic engineering tasks in one or more areas: circuit and PCB design, power electronics, power systems, embedded systems, or industrial controls.
- Create and debug schematics, SPICE netlists, component models, control logic, and other native artifacts that let another engineer reproduce a task.
- Set operating points, initial conditions, parameter sweeps, transient or steady-state analyses, and fault cases, then judge convergence, model assumptions, and physical validity.
- Write reference solutions and verification code that check voltage, current, efficiency, losses, timing, stability, protection behavior, and design constraints with stated units and tolerances.
- Package model files, dependencies, scripts, and results into a reproducible set, and test the checks against correct and deliberately incorrect cases.
- Review AI-generated engineering artifacts, diagnose failures in the design, simulation setup, or verifier, and use coding agents with independent checks on their output.
Requirements5
- 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience with direct ownership of circuit designs, power systems, controls, or product validation.
- Recent hands-on work with KiCad, Altium, Cadence, SPICE/ngspice, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar engineering software; you do not need every tool on that list.
- Ability to write, inspect, and debug Python or comparable scripts for simulation automation, data analysis, and numerical checks.
- Sound judgment about component behavior, numerical accuracy, safety margins, and applicable standards, plus the ability to tell simulation predictions apart from measured lab evidence.
- Clear technical writing and a disciplined approach to documenting assumptions, reproducibility, and failure modes.
Preferred Qualifications3
- Professional engineering credential
- Test automation experience
- Engineering training or evaluation design background
Who Should Apply
Electrical engineers with 5+ years of hands-on ownership in circuits, power systems, controls, or product validation fit this work. You should be comfortable with SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools, write Python for checks, and document assumptions and failure modes with care.
Salary Insight
The post lists $70 to $90 per hour. Writers earn $70 to $80 per hour, and reviewers earn $90 per hour. Pay depends on the track you take, so confirm writer versus reviewer duties during screening.
