Electrical Engineer
Listing checked October 15, 2026 · pay as published by Mercor
Overview
Mercor pairs seasoned electrical engineers with a major AI lab's GenAI group. Your industry judgment in circuit design, power systems, or embedded hardware will shape how large language models reason about real engineering problems. The role runs 40 hours per week for an initial 3 to 4 months, with extension possible. The job is remote anywhere in the United States, though candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area get preference. You become a W-2 employee of Cincinnatus LLC while embedded with the AI lab's extended workforce.
What You'll Do5
- 1Guide research and engineering teams to close knowledge gaps and sharpen AI model performance across circuit analysis, circuit design, power systems, power electronics, embedded systems, and control systems.
- 2Design challenging, domain-specific tasks that test electrical engineering reasoning and write accurate, well-structured reference solutions for those problems.
- 3Evaluate electrical engineering tasks and model outputs, then provide written technical feedback that flags incorrect assumptions, unit and sign errors, violated design constraints, and unsafe design choices.
- 4Develop guidelines and detailed rubrics to assess reasoning quality in analog and mixed-signal design, RF, PCB and board-level design, power distribution, signal processing, and controls.
- 5Collaborate with other subject matter experts to keep training data consistent and accurate.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 25+ years of hands-on professional electrical engineering experience in industry, such as semiconductors, consumer electronics, power and utilities, aerospace and defense, automotive and EV, robotics, telecommunications, or medical devices.
- 3Ownership of real engineering work: designing and bringing up circuits or boards, running circuit simulations, specifying power systems, or taking hardware through design reviews, validation, and production.
- 4Working fluency with common tools such as SPICE or LTspice, Cadence, Altium, KiCad, MATLAB or Simulink, or ETAP.
- 5Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as IEEE, NEC, IPC, or UL.
- 6Career progression toward senior or lead engineering responsibility. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required.
- 7Hands-on use of large language models in professional work, plus judgment to tell a well-reasoned answer from a plausible-sounding wrong one.
- 8Ability to commit at least 40 hours per week on weekdays.
- 9Strong written communication and the ability to explain complex technical decisions in plain terms.
Who Should Apply
Electrical engineers with five or more years in industry and real ownership of circuit, power, or embedded hardware work. You have used SPICE, Altium, Cadence, or similar tools, know standards such as IEEE or NEC, and apply large language models in professional work. A PE license helps but is not required.
Salary Insight
The posted range is $80.00 to $120.00 per hour. That rate fits a seasoned electrical engineer with 5+ years in industry. W-2 status through Cincinnatus LLC means payroll, benefits, and compliance sit with the staffing partner rather than a 1099 setup.

Application Tip
Name the exact EDA and simulation tools you have used, such as LTspice, Altium, or MATLAB/Simulink, and pair each with a concrete hardware project that went through design review, validation, or production. Add one line on how you use large language models at work, since the role tests judgment about model reasoning.
