Overview

Mercor needs senior mechanical engineers to write evaluation tasks that test how well AI systems reason about enterprise product design and manufacturing. Every scenario mirrors the design complexity, safety stakes, and production volume of Fortune 500 industrial work. You will build on two standards tracks, one anchored in ASME and the other in ISO, so experts credentialed in either or both can contribute. The work blends scenario design, reference outputs, and grading rubrics that reflect how senior engineering leaders actually judge a design decision.

What You'll Do6

  • Write enterprise-level mechanical engineering scenarios that cover full product design cycles, design reviews with multiple stakeholders, and certification work at large accounts.
  • Create tasks spanning CAD modeling, thermal and fluid systems, structural and stress analysis, manufacturing process engineering, and failure and reliability studies.
  • Embed industry tooling into the scenarios, including SolidWorks, ANSYS, CATIA, MATLAB/Simulink, and PLM platforms such as Siemens Teamcenter and PTC Windchill.
  • Apply recognized methods like FEA/CFD simulation, DFM/DFA principles, Six Sigma or DFSS, and GD&T under ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS.
  • Produce reference design specifications, engineering analyses, and technical write-ups pitched at an executive audience.
  • Author rubrics that separate genuine engineering judgment from textbook recall or coursework-level answers.

Requirements4

  • 5 or more years as a mechanical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 firm or a major industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing company.
  • Hands-on ownership of large product designs, manufacturing processes, or engineering certification programs.
  • Fluency with enterprise mechanical engineering tools and methods, including CAD, simulation, and PLM systems.
  • Working knowledge of how safety standards, regulatory certification (ASME, ISO, FAA, FDA), and cross-functional design governance operate in practice.

Preferred Qualifications2

  • A professional engineering credential such as US PE, CEng, or EUR ING.
  • Prior experience writing rubrics, engineering training curricula, or design documentation.

Who Should Apply

Mechanical engineers with at least five years at a Fortune 500 or major industrial manufacturer who have owned large designs, processes, or certification programs. Credentialed engineers comfortable with ASME or ISO standards and enterprise CAD, simulation, and PLM tools fit best.

Salary Insight

This engagement pays $80.00 per hour. That rate sits well above typical contract mechanical engineering work and reflects the seniority bar: five plus years at a Fortune 500 or major industrial manufacturer, plus deep familiarity with ASME or ISO certification practice.
