Electrical Engineering Expert - Remote Contract
Listing checked September 18, 2026 · pay as published by Handshake AI
Overview
Handshake AI engages experienced electrical and computer engineers for part-time contract work that advances AI research. The project asks you to use hands-on industry knowledge in power systems, semiconductors, or embedded/RF design to judge AI output and write feedback that teaches models how a working engineer thinks. You create expert-level problems, review model answers for technical accuracy and practical feasibility, and submit structured critiques. Work runs as an ongoing project alongside your current role. Tasks follow your schedule, with no minimum hour requirement.
What You'll Do4
- 1Build expert-level engineering problems and scenarios drawn from real design, test, and field work.
- 2Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, practical feasibility, and alignment with actual engineering practice.
- 3Deliver structured written feedback that helps improve AI model performance.
- 4Choose your own hours and complete tasks without a set schedule or minimum hour requirement.
Requirements7
- 12+ years of hands-on electrical engineering experience in industry.
- 2MS or PhD in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering. A BS in EE also qualifies when paired with strong industry experience.
- 3Demonstrated depth in one sub-domain: power systems, microgrids, or high-voltage engineering; semiconductors, chip design, or EDA; or embedded systems, DSP, or RF.
- 4Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, SPICE, PSCAD, ETAP, PSS®E, Cadence, Synopsys, Altium, KiCad, Verilog/SystemVerilog, or similar EDA and simulation environments. These tools strengthen an application but are not required.
- 5Experience at a recognized EE or hardware employer such as Qualcomm, TI, Intel, NVIDIA, GE, or Siemens. This background helps but is not required.
- 6Based in the United States or Canada.
- 7Strong written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work on your own in a remote, asynchronous setting.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate brings at least two years of industry EE work, an MS or PhD in electrical, electronics, or computer engineering, and deep knowledge in one area such as power systems, chip design, or RF. A BS in EE with a strong industry record also fits. This role suits engineers who can explain technical tradeoffs in writing and manage their own workload. Candidates without hands-on industry experience, a clear sub-domain specialty, or eligibility in the United States and Canada will find the role less suitable. Reviewers turn down many applicants who list broad EE skills but cannot show specific projects, tools, or measurable outcomes, and submissions with vague feedback or weak written explanations also score low.
Salary Insight
The posting lists $120.00 per hour. That rate matches the seniority of experienced electrical engineers with advanced degrees or deep sub-domain expertise, and the part-time project format means your earnings track the hours you choose to work.

Application Tip
In your application, name the exact sub-domain you know best and pair it with a concrete project, tool, or result. Cite a PSCAD study you ran, a Cadence tapeout you supported, or an RF design you tested, and quantify your years and outcomes. Reviewers score fit on industry experience, degree, sub-domain depth, and written clarity, so those details do the heavy lifting.

Handshake AI
VerifiedElectrical Engineering Expert - Remote Canada
Handshake AI hires practicing electrical and computer engineers to shape how AI models handle real engineering judgment. You will create power systems, semiconductor, or embedded/RF problems drawn from design, test, and field work, then score model answers for technical accuracy and practical feasibility. The engagement runs as a part-time fellowship with no fixed hours, so you can keep your current engineering job. Your written critiques become training signals that push the model toward the reasoning style of a working engineer.

AfterQuery
VerifiedElectrical Engineer Expert - Remote Contract
AfterQuery needs electrical engineers to build the design and analysis problems that frontier AI labs use to test model judgment. You will author scenarios that span requirements through design review, then write reference answers that explain the engineering reasoning behind each choice. Another core task involves grading model output for technical accuracy and standards compliance, plus flagging designs that read as plausible yet would fail in practice. Contractors bring depth in at least one area, such as power systems, embedded hardware, or circuit design. The role runs remote and async, pays $100 to $125 per hour, and asks for 10 hours per week with weekly Stripe payments.

SME Careers
