Overview

A remote contractor role for a CNC Machinist focusing on advanced part production and process optimization. You’ll work with both hobbyist and industrial machines, set up programs, verify tools and offsets, and troubleshoot across metals and plastics. Your work supports high-quality input for training AI systems by sharing real-world machining practices. Expect hands-on tasks, precise measurements, and cross-team collaboration to ensure parts meet drawings and GD&T standards. Haas control experience and the ability to read blueprints are essential.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Set up and operate CNC machines across desktop and industrial platforms, ensuring proper tooling and work-holding configurations
  • 2Load, verify, and run CNC programs; establish work offsets and confirm machine readiness for each project
  • 3Execute first-piece checks, compare parts to drawings, and adjust setups to hit dimensional targets
  • 4Maintain machines through routine servicing and diagnose issues like tool wear, chatter, or drift in measurements
  • 5Use precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, indicators, CMM) to verify parts against specifications
  • 6Read engineering drawings and GD&T callouts to guide production
  • 7Collaborate with CAM programmers and other stakeholders to improve setups and manufacturability

Requirements7

  • 15+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience with setup and production duties
  • 2Expertise operating Haas control systems (VF-2 or equivalent)
  • 3Familiarity with desktop hobbyist CNC platforms such as Makera Carvera is highly preferred
  • 4Proven ability to interpret blueprints and GD&T, and to use precision measurement tools
  • 5Experience working with metals and plastics and handling diverse geometries
  • 6Strong written and spoken English for documentation and feedback
  • 7Proactive troubleshooting of machining processes and maintaining a safe, organized workspace

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate brings at least five years of CNC experience, comfortable on Haas machines, and a solid track record of interpreting drawings and GD&T. If you mainly have internship-level exposure or limited hands-on setup experience, this role may not be the best fit. Candidates who struggle with precise measurements, tool wear, or diagnosing process issues are likely to score low on fit. Strong communication to share findings and collaborate with CAM programmers will help you stand out.
