Overview
Mercor pairs you with a leading research lab on an AI project built around Chinese-language model quality. Your days center on LLM evaluation: reading machine output in Chinese, judging where translation, summarization, dialogue, or grammar correction falls short, and marking the exact spot where meaning drifts. You also curate and refine Chinese text so the model trains on clean, culturally accurate material. Linguists here annotate grammar, syntax, and semantics, then hand researchers a written account of what broke and why. The engagement is part-time and remote, with $50/hr for the work.
What You'll Do6
- Score Chinese text produced by a large language model across translation, summarization, dialogue, and grammar correction tasks.
- Rewrite or edit Chinese passages so they meet native stylistic and cultural standards.
- Tag Chinese text for grammatical, syntactic, and semantic features to build training data.
- Log recurring model errors and language gaps, then flag them for AI researchers.
- Write up findings on phrasing that reads unnatural or misses regional usage, with examples.
- Work with research staff to turn your feedback into concrete model improvements.
Requirements6
- Native or near-native Chinese fluency with firm command of grammar, syntax, and stylistics.
- Hands-on background in translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or Chinese NLP data work.
- Sharp eye for subtle errors, awkward phrasing, and context that shifts meaning.
- Grasp of regional variation and register across Chinese-speaking markets.
- Clear written communication suited to remote, distributed collaboration.
- Curiosity about AI and language technology helps, though the project does not require prior LLM work.
Who Should Apply
Chinese linguists with professional translation, editing, or annotation experience who can defend a judgment call in writing. If you spot a clumsy sentence in a machine translation before finishing the paragraph, this project uses that instinct daily.
Salary Insight
$50/hr is the stated rate for this part-time remote engagement. That sits in the upper band for Chinese linguistic annotation and LLM evaluation work, which more often lands between $20 and $40 per hour depending on the client and task complexity.
