Chemical Engineer AI Content Evaluation Remote Contract
Overview
As a remote contract Chemical Engineer, you will evaluate AI-generated chemical engineering content for accuracy and clarity. You’ll challenge models with realistic process scenarios and provide structured feedback on calculations, constraints, and safety considerations. You will work with artifacts such as PFDs, P&IDs, and process simulations from Aspen Plus or HYSYS to verify technical soundness. Your input shapes model explanations, assumptions, and escalation guidelines, helping AI reasoning align with engineering judgment. This role targets professionals with 4+ years in design, operations, or safety within chemical engineering.
What You'll Do9
- 1Evaluate AI-generated chemical engineering content for accuracy, logical consistency, and completeness across topics like material and energy balances, thermodynamics, and separations.
- 2Design and test realistic prompts that push models to perform calculations and mass & energy balance reasoning.
- 3Edit AI outputs, explanations, and step-by-step engineering solutions to improve clarity and signaling of safety considerations.
- 4Provide structured feedback on factual errors, missing constraints, unit inconsistencies, and unsafe recommendations.
- 5Assess model performance on topics such as phase behavior, distillation, process control, and scale-up considerations.
- 6Help establish standards for technical AI communication, including how models state assumptions and limitations.
- 7Collaborate to ensure AI-generated content reflects sound engineering principles and proper safety considerations.
- 8Flag scenarios that require escalation to a licensed engineer or site expert.
- 9Document findings and contribute to training data guidelines used by SME Careers for AI data services.
Requirements5
- 1Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with 4+ years of professional experience in process design, plant operations, safety, scale-up, or related specialties.
- 2Strong grounding in material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations (distillation, absorption, extraction, membranes), unit operations, and process control concepts.
- 3Ability to perform engineering calculations with defensible reasoning under uncertainty and safety factors.
- 4Experience with AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is a strong plus.
- 5Familiarity with PFDs, P&IDs, and process-simulation tools like Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, and familiarity with HAZOP/LOPA or SOPs.
Who Should Apply
Seasoned chemical engineers with 4+ years of hands-on experience in process design, operations, or safety are ideal for this remote contract. They should excel at precise problem solving and be able to justify assumptions with clear safety factors. Candidates without exposure to AI data workflows or the listed process-simulation tools may struggle to fit. Those who cannot articulate technical reasoning or who struggle with concise feedback may score lower in this role.
Salary Insight
Pay rate is $100/hr for this remote contract engagement. This rate reflects senior associate-level specialization within AI data services and contract engineering work.
