C Programming Quality Assurance Lead for AI Training Projects
Overview
As a remote, hourly contractor, you oversee quality for C programming within AI training projects as the dedicated QA lead. You review AI-generated C code and trainer outputs, delivering precise written feedback that aligns with project rubrics. You evaluate correctness, compile-time validity, runtime behavior, and memory safety, with emphasis on pointers and portability. Collaborating with distributed teams, you maintain clear guidelines and onboarding materials to keep contributors aligned.
What You'll Do9
- 1Review AI-generated C code and QA outputs against project rubrics, delivering precise feedback via DMs and escalating recurring issues when patterns emerge.
- 2Conduct code reviews focused on correctness, compile-time validity, runtime behavior, memory safety, pointer logic, portability, and performance, with clear documentation of findings.
- 3Communicate guideline updates to contributors on Discord and share revised standards to keep reviews consistent across the team.
- 4Answer questions around pointers, memory allocation, compilation, UB, portability, embedded constraints, testing, and rubric interpretation to guide contributors.
- 5Manage activation by DMing inactive contributors, tracking follow-ups, and flagging availability issues to keep the QA workflow moving.
- 6Create and maintain C style guides, trackers, FAQs, examples, calibration tasks, honeypots, onboarding materials, and other quality documentation.
- 7Lead onboarding and training sessions for new C contributors to align on expectations and rubrics.
- 8Flag unsafe, non-compilable, misleading, memory-unsafe, or non-production-ready C recommendations to protect output quality.
- 9Identify recurring quality gaps and propose improvements to QA workflows to raise overall review consistency.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- 2Strong English proficiency to follow guidelines and provide clear technical feedback.
- 33+ years of professional experience in C programming, systems programming, embedded development, firmware, operating systems, performance engineering, code review, QA, or technical mentoring.
- 4Solid understanding of pointers, arrays, memory allocation, structs, function pointers, preprocessor macros, header files, compilation/linking, undefined behavior, file I/O, bitwise operations, and portability.
- 5Ability to identify issues such as buffer overflows, memory leaks, use-after-free, undefined behavior, invalid pointer arithmetic, race conditions, non-compilable code, hallucinated APIs, or incomplete explanations.
- 6Familiarity with GCC/Clang/MSVC, Make/CMake, GDB/LLDB, Valgrind, sanitizers, embedded toolchains, POSIX APIs, unit testing frameworks, GitHub, CI/CD, profiling, and static analysis tools is preferred.
- 7Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, reviewers, engineers, coding mentors, or QAs is strongly preferred.
- 8Comfort with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, GitHub, and PM systems.
- 9Highly organized with ability to maintain style guides, trackers, FAQs, onboarding materials, honeypots, calibration tasks, and quality documentation.
- 10Experience with AI training, LLM evaluation, code QA, or rubric-based code review is a strong plus.
Who Should Apply
Candidates with hands-on C programming and a proven track record directing QA for embedded or systems software will fit best here. You bring 3+ years of practical experience and can translate complex feedback into concise guidance for remote contributors on Discord. You should be comfortable coordinating across distributed teams and documenting quality standards for repeatable results. This role may not be suitable for those who lack strong English communication or who prefer on-site, non-collaborative setups. If you have limited exposure to AI training data, rubric-based reviews, or memory-safety tooling, your fit may be lower.
