Overview

This project asks US litigators to review pairs of motion briefs from the same case and decide which argument holds up better. You will score each brief against defined quality dimensions, then annotate the PDFs to flag legal, factual, citation, and drafting problems. The work feeds high-quality legal reasoning data used to train frontier models. Expect a one-week review window of roughly 30 to 40 hours, a short onboarding session, and a firm rule that every attorney must finish the full set of reviews.

What You'll Do5

  • 1Compare two motion briefs filed in the same case, choose the stronger one, and explain that choice in plain terms.
  • 2Score both briefs against the project's defined quality dimensions.
  • 3Mark errors inside the PDFs, including problems with legal reasoning, facts, citations, and drafting.
  • 4Complete every assigned review under the project requirements and the one-week window.
  • 5Attend a short onboarding session before kickoff.

Requirements8

  • 1Active bar membership in at least one US state.
  • 23+ years of US litigation practice, with real federal court work and experience drafting or opposing motions.
  • 3A practice rooted in federal law or federal court matters. State-law practices such as family law do not fit.
  • 4J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • 5Clear legal writing and close attention to detail.
  • 62+ years at an AmLaw 100 firm is preferred.
  • 7Prior work with Mercor on legal AI projects is a plus.
  • 8Data annotation, AI evaluation, or legal benchmark experience is a plus.

Who Should Apply

This role suits a US-licensed litigator with 3+ years of federal court practice who has drafted or opposed motions and can judge brief quality with care. AmLaw 100 experience and prior AI evaluation or legal annotation work will strengthen a candidate's case.
