Overview

Remote contractor role for a UI and visual designer focused on design systems and written rationale. You’ll contribute to a writing-intensive project that informs how next‑gen AI models learn from real-world input. Your domain knowledge in UI, typography, color, and accessible component libraries will guide evaluation, documentation, and mockups created in Figma. A strong portfolio and clear, technical writing are essential to explain design decisions and system guidelines.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Critically assess interfaces to identify strengths and gaps in visual and interaction design.
  • 2Draft structured written rationales for design choices, capturing analysis and recommended actions.
  • 3Define and publish design system principles, patterns, and guidelines to support consistency.
  • 4Review and document component libraries for clarity, consistency, and accessibility.
  • 5Create clear, visually compelling mockups in Figma that follow responsive and typography best practices.
  • 6Produce design documentation that communicates decisions and rationale to varied audiences.
  • 7Ensure accessibility and usability considerations are integrated into visuals and supporting docs.

Requirements7

  • 1At least 3 years of experience in UI, visual, or product design with a solid digital portfolio.
  • 2Deep knowledge of typography, color theory, visual hierarchy, layout, and responsive design.
  • 3Proficiency with Figma and experience with design systems and component libraries.
  • 4Experience documenting design systems or creating component guidelines with detailed rationales.
  • 5Strong written communication to explain complex design decisions clearly and analytically.
  • 6Familiarity with accessibility standards such as WCAG and applying them in interface design.
  • 7Educational background from reputable institutions or organizations is valued; advanced English writing is essential.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate has a three‑plus year track record in UI or visual design and can articulate design decisions through written rationales. They should be comfortable building and documenting design system components in Figma and applying accessibility standards. This role may be less suitable for designers without a strong written communication ability or without hands-on experience with design systems and component libraries. Common fit gaps include limited experience with documentation or weak typography and color theory knowledge.

Salary Insight

Pay range is $90 - $140 per hour. Pay is discussed with candidates later in the process.
