Product Designer Specialist for Analytical Writing and Design Reasoning
Overview
A remote contract role for a product designer who can translate design decisions into clear, written rationale. You’ll craft well-structured analyses that explain why a chosen approach works, the trade-offs involved, and the expected user impact. Your writing helps train AI models by providing real-world design reasoning and process documentation, not visual deliverables. You should confidently articulate design strategy, prototyping details, and the “why” behind decisions to support model training and evaluation. Product design, design strategy, and prototyping (Figma) are core touchpoints in the work.
What You'll Do6
- 1Produce structured written analyses that explain design decisions, the rationale behind them, and their impact on users.
- 2Describe trade-offs, constraints, and business context in clear, plain English when evaluating design information.
- 3Draft and refine design documentation, specifications, and case studies centered on design reasoning and process.
- 4Translate complex design concepts into accessible language suitable for AI model training.
- 5Compare multiple design solutions, calling out decision points and their implications for users and stakeholders.
- 6Collaborate with project stakeholders through asynchronous channels to clarify requirements and align on deliverables.
Requirements7
- 13+ years of end-to-end product design experience, preferably on web or mobile projects.
- 2Proven expertise in design strategy, prototyping with Figma, and clearly articulating design rationale.
- 3Experience drafting design docs, specifications, critiques, or detailed case studies as part of prior projects.
- 4Exceptional analytical writing skills with the ability to synthesize information and communicate it effectively.
- 5Strong critical thinking and ability to conduct thorough trade-off analyses in evolving contexts.
- 6Professional-level written English with comfort writing for non-technical audiences.
- 7Background from leading universities or renowned organizations is a strong plus.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate can transform complex design ideas into precise written explanations, with a track record of end-to-end product design and solid prototyping in Figma. This role is less suitable for someone who primarily creates visuals or who lacks experience documenting design decisions or analyzing trade-offs in detail. Common fit gaps include limited experience writing for non-technical audiences and insufficient experience producing design docs or case studies. Candidates who haven’t demonstrated strong analytical writing or cannot clearly justify design choices may score lower on fit.
