Overview

Etsy's Agent Platform and Experience team needs a full stack engineer for a contract stretch on the tooling behind its customer support agents. Six engineers form the squad, split evenly between the US east coast and Ireland, so the group shares a morning overlap from 9 to 12 EST. Expect to move between React and Angular front-end work and PHP services, with a steady amount of debugging and cleanup on older code. The goal is concrete: give support agents better tools so they resolve customer issues with more consistency.

What You'll Do7

  • Build and maintain front-end features in React and Angular for the tools Etsy support agents use every day.
  • Work through the PHP back end, keeping existing services stable while adding new endpoints.
  • Track down bugs across the stack, including slow spots that make agent workflows drag.
  • Refactor aging code so improvements land without breaking behavior agents rely on.
  • Partner with product managers and designers to shape requirements and carry them through to shipped features.
  • Join the shared 9 to 12 EST window for coordination with the Ireland half of the team.
  • Review how each change lands for end users, from the support agents to the customers they serve.

Requirements5

  • Hands-on experience with more than one front-end framework, specifically React and Angular.
  • Full stack background that includes PHP on the server side.
  • Sharp debugging instincts, including comfort tracing issues through code you did not write.
  • Availability during core hours of 9 to 12 EST.
  • Ability to work from Etsy's New York office.

Preferred Qualifications5

  • Refactoring and improving legacy code
  • Helping define requirements, not just following them
  • Working alongside design and UX stakeholders
  • Performance tuning in slow areas of a codebase
  • Clear communication in a split US and Ireland team

Who Should Apply

A full stack engineer with React, Angular and PHP already on the resume who treats debugging and refactoring as real work, not cleanup duty. You should be based near Etsy's New York office and free each morning from 9 to 12 EST to sync with the Ireland half of the team.

Salary Insight

The posting pays $80 to $86 per hour for this freelance contract. That lines up with senior full stack contract rates in New York for someone carrying both PHP and modern front-end skills. Etsy states the engagement is unlikely to extend or convert, so plan on it as a fixed project rather than a route to a permanent seat.
