Overview
Mercor places this role inside a large enterprise platform team that runs the customer-facing web and mobile experiences for millions of daily users. The core of the work is production engineering in Node.js, TypeScript, and Rust, shipping services that hold up under heavy traffic. You'll sit with Engineering, UX, Product, Business, and Analytics, and continuous experimentation decides what gets built next. Generative AI already shows up in the stack, both as a product feature and as a tool the team leans on. Expect 40 hours a week on weekdays under a W-2 arrangement with Cincinnatus LLC.
What You'll Do7
- Guide a scoped feature from design through release, keeping the squad's output tied to platform goals.
- Write, test, and maintain services in Node.js, TypeScript, and Rust across the full lifecycle and CI/CD pipeline.
- Build the API layer, both REST and GraphQL, that connects backend services and feeds high-traffic consumer apps.
- Bring AI/ML capabilities into product services and fold generative AI tooling into day-to-day engineering work.
- Review code, shape solution design, and set patterns for systems that stay secure and hold up as they grow.
- Watch application performance, resolve defects, and push improvements back into the release cycle.
- Coach peers through knowledge sharing and raise the engineering bar across the team.
Requirements10
- 5+ years building production software at a recognized high-scale organization, or a Computer Science degree (or related field) plus 3+ years.
- Backend coding in Node.js and TypeScript that has shipped and run in production.
- Rust experience in production services, performance-critical modules, or substantial systems work.
- Solid web fundamentals: HTTP semantics, cookies, headers, caching, sessions, and service-to-service patterns such as auth, timeouts, and retries.
- A track record on high-traffic, consumer-facing web platforms.
- GraphQL on Node.js, including schema design, resolvers, and federation, is a plus.
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards is a plus.
- A career history that shows progression to senior-level ownership.
- Availability for at least 40 hours per week on weekdays.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain complex technical ideas to a broad audience.
Who Should Apply
Backend engineers with five or more years in production systems who can point to real Node.js, TypeScript, and Rust work at consumer scale. The role suits someone ready to own features end to end and explain tradeoffs to product and analytics partners.
Salary Insight
Pay runs $50 to $80 per hour through W-2 employment with Cincinnatus LLC at 40 hours a week. That band sits in senior contract territory for Node.js and TypeScript work, and engineers who also bring production Rust tend to land near the top of it.
