Overview

Etsy's Agent Platform and Experience team brings together six experienced engineers focused on making support agents more effective and improving the decisions they make for customers and the wider Etsy community. The team needs a full stack engineer for a freelance engagement to improve the agent tooling and infrastructure behind Etsy's support operation. Work centers on React and Angular frontends, PHP backend systems, and the plumbing that lets support agents handle requests at scale. The squad splits between the US East Coast and Ireland, so core collaboration hours run 9 to 12 EST. Experienced engineers on the team support your onboarding.

What You'll Do8

  • Improve the tooling and infrastructure that Etsy Support Agents use to resolve customer requests.
  • Build and maintain full stack features with React or Angular on the frontend and PHP services on the backend.
  • Debug problems across frontend and backend layers and trace root causes in existing systems.
  • Refactor legacy code and improve existing modules instead of only adding new features.
  • Work with product managers and designers to shape requirements and ship product features that matter to support agents.
  • Tune performance in slow areas of the codebase and remove bottlenecks that affect agent workflows.
  • Keep end-user impact in view when making technical tradeoffs for support tools.
  • Coordinate with teammates in the US East Coast and Ireland during core hours from 9 to 12 EST.

Requirements4

  • Hands-on experience with React and Angular frontend frameworks.
  • Full stack engineering background that covers frontend work and backend services.
  • Strong debugging skills and a methodical approach to isolating defects.
  • Availability for core collaboration hours from 9 to 12 EST.

Preferred Qualifications6

  • PHP background
  • Refactoring and improving legacy code
  • Driving and defining requirements with stakeholders
  • Working with design and UX partners
  • Performance tuning and spotting slow code paths
  • Collaborating with product managers and designers on product features

Who Should Apply

Full stack engineers with React and Angular experience and strong debugging habits fit this freelance role. You should welcome legacy refactors, partner with product and design, and overlap with US East Coast and Ireland teammates from 9 to 12 EST. A PHP background helps.

Salary Insight

Pay for this freelance engagement runs $80.00 to $86.00 per hour. That band sits in senior full stack contract territory, where React, Angular, and PHP debugging work sets the bar.
