Listing checked September 29, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 seeks Senior NDT Inspectors (Level II/III) to support a client's engineering project by providing expert input that helps train next-generation AI systems. You will interpret radiographic, ultrasonic, and other NDT data, applying code-based acceptance criteria to make disposition calls. This is a remote, project-based contract with no AI background needed. Your deep domain knowledge in non-destructive testing is what matters.
What You'll Do7
- 1Examine radiographic images, ultrasonic scans (including PAUT), and magnetic particle or penetrant indications to identify flaws.
- 2Review real inspection data and deliver detailed written and verbal assessments that align with codes such as ASME Section V and API 510/653.
- 3Use weld defect acceptance criteria to recommend whether indications should be accepted or rejected.
- 4Assess thermographic imagery or remote visual inspection footage when required, offering expert judgment across varied scenarios.
- 5Write clear, technically precise reports that capture findings, reasoning, and suggested next steps.
- 6Work asynchronously with other technical specialists to resolve ambiguous or complex indications.
- 7Suggest improvements to project protocols based on industry best practices and changing compliance requirements.
Requirements8
- 1Current ASNT or ISO 9712 NDT Level II/III certification in methods such as RT, UT/PAUT, MT, or PT.
- 2At least 8 years of direct experience interpreting radiographs, ultrasonic/PAUT scans, MT/PT indications, and similar NDT data.
- 3Background in oil and gas, petrochemical, or power sectors.
- 4Solid working knowledge of codes and standards including ASME Section V, VIII, XI; API 510/570/653; API 1104; and AWS D1.1.
- 5Proven ability to make nuanced accept/reject decisions using code-based acceptance criteria.
- 6Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for authoring technical documentation and explaining findings to varied audiences.
- 7Capability to work independently and maintain objectivity in a remote setting.
- 8Experience with thermography or RVI data evaluation is a plus.
Who Should Apply
This role fits NDT professionals who hold active Level II or III certifications and have spent years interpreting RT, UT/PAUT, MT, and PT data in heavy industry. You should be comfortable making code-based accept/reject calls and writing detailed technical reports. The position is less suitable for inspectors with fewer than 8 years of direct interpretation experience or those who lack current certifications. Candidates often get rejected when they cannot show specific examples of applying ASME or API acceptance criteria, or when their communication skills are not strong enough for clear, remote technical writing.
