Senior Electronics Quality Engineer – Remote
Listing checked September 29, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 is hiring Senior Electronics Quality Engineers to support a customer project centered on advanced electronics assembly and inspection. Your day-to-day work will involve reviewing PCB CAM and Gerber files, performing IPC 610 and IPC 620 inspections, and analyzing SMT/AOI defects. You will also apply AS6081 counterfeit detection methods and use C-SAM and X-ray for semiconductor package checks. No AI background is needed. The role is remote, with a preference for candidates based in the US.
What You'll Do7
- 1Evaluate PCB CAM and Gerber files for manufacturability, quality, and adherence to industry standards.
- 2Carry out visual inspections per IPC 610 and IPC 620, then provide detailed feedback on PCB assemblies or wire harness builds.
- 3Document and analyze SMT and AOI defect types, including identifying root causes of AOI false calls.
- 4Apply AS6081 counterfeit electronic part detection methods and deliver practical risk mitigation insights.
- 5Interpret C-SAM and X-ray imaging for semiconductor package inspections, including die inspection and MIL-STD-883 compliance checks.
- 6Write clear, concise reports and explain findings verbally to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- 7Work with project leads to improve workflow processes and refine training datasets for AI development.
Requirements7
- 18+ years of hands-on experience in electronics quality, CAM engineering, or failure analysis within PCB assembly, wire harness, or semiconductor packaging.
- 2Deep knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 inspection criteria. IPC CIS/CIT certification is strongly preferred.
- 3Proven experience reviewing Gerber data and using PCB CAM software for manufacturability and quality assurance.
- 4Proficiency in SMT processes, AOI defect analysis, and correcting false calls in automated inspection systems.
- 5Direct involvement in counterfeit component screening per AS6081, including familiarity with risk indicators and mitigation strategies.
- 6Hands-on skills with semiconductor inspection tools such as C-SAM and X-ray, plus familiarity with MIL-STD-883 procedures.
- 7Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and knowledge transfer.
Who Should Apply
This role fits engineers with at least eight years in electronics quality, CAM engineering, or failure analysis, especially those who have worked with PCB assembly, wire harnesses, or semiconductor packaging. You should be comfortable with IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 criteria, Gerber reviews, SMT/AOI defect analysis, AS6081 counterfeit screening, and tools like C-SAM and X-ray. Candidates who lack direct experience with these standards or tools will likely score low on fit. A common reason for rejection is not having hands-on AS6081 or MIL-STD-883 experience. Another is weak documentation skills, since the job requires clear reports and verbal explanations to mixed audiences.
