Senior Aviation Maintenance Inspector
Listing checked September 29, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 seeks FAA-certified Senior Aviation Maintenance Inspectors to support a customer project that advances aviation maintenance procedures and regulatory knowledge. Your daily work involves reviewing aircraft maintenance manuals, IPCs, and borescope engine inspection data to help train next-generation AI systems. You will also assess composite structure inspections and interpret approach plates and flight ops briefings. No AI background is needed. This is a remote contractor role, with US-based candidates preferred.
What You'll Do7
- 1Examine and annotate aircraft maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, and associated technical documents.
- 2Review borescope engine inspection imagery and reports, flag anomalies, and suggest corrective actions that align with FAA standards.
- 3Evaluate composite structure inspection processes and results against regulatory requirements and accepted industry practices.
- 4Interpret approach plates and flight operations briefing materials, then provide detailed feedback on navigational and operational accuracy.
- 5Produce written and verbal assessments of maintenance and inspection procedures to guide AI model development.
- 6Cross-check maintenance tasks against FAA Parts 43, 121, 135, and 145 to confirm compliance and accurate process representation.
- 7Apply subject matter expertise to refine and validate data sets used for AI training in aviation contexts.
Requirements7
- 1FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate, Inspection Authorization (IA), or equivalent Part 145 inspector status strongly preferred.
- 28+ years of hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance, inspection, and regulatory compliance.
- 3Expertise with borescope engine inspection and interpretation of resulting imagery and reports.
- 4Proficiency in reading and interpreting maintenance manuals, IPCs, and approach plates.
- 5Thorough working knowledge of FAA Parts 43, 121, 135, and 145 regulations and real-world application.
- 6Exceptional written and verbal communication capabilities, with a strong attention to detail.
- 7Experience as a check airman or in training/mentoring roles within aviation maintenance settings is a plus.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate holds an FAA A&P certificate or IA, brings at least eight years of hands-on maintenance and inspection experience, and can read borescope imagery, maintenance manuals, IPCs, and approach plates with ease. You should be comfortable writing clear technical assessments and cross-referencing tasks against FAA Parts 43, 121, 135, and 145. This role is less suitable for someone without FAA certification or for those who have not worked directly with borescope engine inspection and composite structures. Candidates often get rejected when they list years of experience but cannot show specific examples of regulatory compliance work, or when their written communication lacks the precision needed for technical documentation.
