Overview

A leading AI lab wants real motion design judgment inside its GenAI training loop. You will build reference deliverables in After Effects and through code-driven pipelines using tools like Remotion and Three.js, then judge what the models produce against those benchmarks. The commitment runs 40 hours per week on weekdays, with Cincinnatus LLC as your W-2 employer while you work inside the lab's extended team. Day to day you write rubrics, catch timing and easing faults in generated video, and explain the fixes to researchers and other subject experts.

What You'll Do6

  • Show research teams where a model misreads motion fundamentals such as easing, typographic hierarchy, tracking, and safe areas, then propose fixes that lift benchmark scores.
  • Produce reference deliverables that hold up in editing: After Effects project files, Cinema 4D or Blender scenes, and animation code written in Remotion, Canvas, SVG, or Three.js.
  • Write task briefs that mirror real client work, including delivery specs across 16:9, 1:1, 9:16, and 4:5.
  • Review AI-generated graphics and video, document each fault in writing, and rank severity so the research team knows what to fix first.
  • Author rubrics and scripted quality checks that run against rendered output, covering duration, frame rate, and audio through FFmpeg probes.
  • Sync with other subject matter experts so grading standards stay consistent across the training set.

Requirements10

  • Five or more years shipping motion design for an agency, motion studio, post house, broadcast design group, or in-house brand team. Crowd rating work, template marketplaces, and student projects do not count.
  • Expert After Effects skills: expressions, kinetic typography, 2.5D parallax, and tracked composites, plus Cinema 4D or Blender for 3D elements.
  • At least one delivered video, overlay, or graphics package where your own code did the work, built with Remotion, HTML5 Canvas, SVG animation, Three.js or WebGL, GSAP, p5.js, TouchDesigner, Houdini, or FFmpeg scripting.
  • Working JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python, enough to debug your own render code and follow someone else's animation scripts.
  • Fluency with editable sources and delivery formats: .aep, .mogrt, .c4d, .blend, Lottie .json, .riv, SVG, Git repos holding render scripts, and ProRes or H.264 masters.
  • Command-line FFmpeg for encoding, concatenation, overlays, frame extraction, and probing duration, frame rate, and audio.
  • Hands-on use of generative video and image tools such as Runway, Kling, Luma, Midjourney, or ComfyUI in professional work, with the eye to spot a weak result hiding behind a polished frame.
  • A public portfolio or reel of shipped work plus a public code sample that renders or animates video. You will walk through both.
  • Reliable availability for 40 or more hours per week on weekdays.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to defend a creative call to engineers and researchers.

Who Should Apply

A motion designer with five or more years of studio-shipped work who also writes animation code and can point to a public repo. You have graded generated video before, or you can learn to spot a weak output behind a polished frame. Broadcast, post house, and in-house brand backgrounds fit best.

Salary Insight

$70 to $120 per hour as a W-2 employee, paid through Cincinnatus LLC. The band sits near the top of motion design contract rates because it asks for both After Effects craft and working render code, so senior designers with shipped Remotion or Three.js work should aim for the middle to upper end.
