Overview
Mercor staffs this role inside a leading AI lab's GenAI group, where design judgment shapes how the next generation of models handles layout and type. You will spend 40 hours each week building difficult, realistic deck and document tasks and then grading what the model produces against them. The toolkit matters: PowerPoint master slides and chart tools, Adobe InDesign for long multi-page documents, and print prepress knowledge that runs from bleed through PDF/X export. Cincinnatus LLC holds the W-2 employment, payroll and benefits, and places you with the lab's extended workforce.
What You'll Do6
- Coach research teams on where model output falls short across presentation design, editorial layout, typography, information design and print production.
- Build demanding, real-world deck and document briefs, from executive summaries to brand books and brochures, and supply reference answers in editable source formats.
- Review AI-generated presentations, documents and infographics, then write clear feedback that flags broken grids, weak type hierarchy, inaccurate charts, missed bleed, wrong page setup and off print color.
- Author rubrics, guidelines and quality checks for layout and typography, including technical inspection of slide and PDF files.
- Work alongside other subject matter experts so training data stays consistent and accurate.
- Record written evaluations in enough detail that another reviewer can follow your reasoning.
Requirements12
- Five or more years shipping presentation, editorial or document design for agency, studio, consultancy or commercial clients.
- Agency, consultancy, presentation studio, brand or annual report studio, publisher, magazine, or in-house corporate communications and investor relations work all count. Crowd rating, data labeling and student projects do not.
- Expert PowerPoint skills, covering master slides, custom templates and chart tooling such as think-cell.
- Expert Adobe InDesign for multi-page documents: master pages, paragraph and character styles, grids, baseline alignment, long-document features and file packaging for print. Shipped Affinity Publisher work also counts.
- Working fluency in Figma and Illustrator for brand systems, diagrams, icons and vector charts.
- Own print prepress: bleed, trim, safe area, folds such as tri-fold and gatefold, dielines, imposition, Pantone and CMYK, press proofs, and PDF/X files a printer accepts first time.
- A body of executive chartbooks, board or investor decks, infographics and data visualisation where chart choice and typography carry the argument.
- Comfort moving between editable source files: .pptx, .key, browser slide tools, .indd and .idml, .ai, .fig, .afpub and print-ready PDF.
- Hands-on use of generative AI tools in professional work, such as Microsoft Copilot in PowerPoint, Gamma, Beautiful.ai, Adobe Firefly, Canva Magic Design or Midjourney for imagery, plus the judgment to spot a plausible-looking weak result.
- A public portfolio or reel of shipped work that you can walk through.
- Availability for at least 40 hours per week on weekdays.
- Strong written communication and the ability to explain creative decisions.
Preferred Qualifications1
- Keynote experience
Who Should Apply
Editorial and presentation designers with five or more years of shipped agency, studio or in-house work who can defend a grid, a type scale and a prepress spec. You have run long documents in InDesign, built executive decks in PowerPoint, and already use generative AI tools with a critical eye.
Salary Insight
Pay runs $70 to $120 per hour for this W-2 engagement. The top of that band fits designers who own prepress and long-document production end to end, while the lower end suits strong deck and layout specialists with less print exposure. Cincinnatus LLC provides payroll and benefits.
